Thank you to MSU, Mankato’s Eta Sigma Gamma, an honor society for health education, for hosting a Dementia Friends session with the College of Allied Health & Nursing-Minnesota State University, Mankato. Our team is thankful to Mankato Police and Fire for investing time in this training and expanding their knowledge on ways to serve and support people living Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Four sessions are being conducted and led by Debbie Richman, START Senior Solutions.

🧠👮 Dementia-Focused Training for Mankato Police Officers

Mankato police officers recently participated in dementia-focused training to strengthen how we respond to calls involving individuals living with dementia. These situations can be challenging and additional knowledge helps officers better assess what’s happening and respond with patience, understanding, and care.

The training was supported by Mankato & North Mankato ACT on Alzheimer’s, which works locally to provide education, resources, and support for individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

Facilitator Debbie Richman shared why this matters:

“It’s great to see these agencies interested and willing to enhance their knowledge of how to better interact with persons with dementia in the community. They are often called into situations where they need to assess a root cause, and having greater knowledge makes that less challenging in an already challenging moment.”

We appreciate the partnership and the chance to keep learning ways to better support our community.
