Weekend 1: Dr Oluwafunmilayo Adeniyi 🇳🇬 American College of Gastroenterology International Training Grant Recipient welcomed Dr Patricia Wanjiru 🇰🇪 POHER Scholar Alum to Boston as she started her summer research internship at the Ragon Institute

Weekend 3 : started by attending a Juneteenth event (history shared) then a trip to Boston Time Out Boston as the FIFA World Cup was happening and a trip to Fenway Park

INVITED SPEAKER: Dr. Jiunn Song

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER:
💫 Dr. Jiunn Song is originally from South Korea. After moving to the United States in early teenage years, he obtained B.A. In biology and chemistry at Cornell University and M.D. and Ph.D from Harvard Medical School.

💫 For his graduate school, he investigated the molecular mechanism of intracellular protein trafficking important for lipid metabolism. Following medical school, he completed internal medicine residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and is currently a gastroenterology fellow.

💫 His clinical and academic interests include hepatology and liver spatial biology. In addition to seeing patients in clinic and performing endoscopy, Dr. Song is currently working as a postdoctoral fellow at Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard where he is investigating liver metabolic zonation.

INVITED SPEAKER: Dr. Alexandra Willauer

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER:
Dr.Alexandra Willauer is a gastroenterology fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital and is interested in pursuing a career in general gastroenterology and hepatology.

💫 She earned her bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering from the The University of Texas at Austin and medical degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center

💫She then completed her residency training at the University of Cincinnati, where she was also a Chief Resident.

💫She has had multiple research publications, primarily focusing on colorectal cancer and hepatitis viruses, and received an American College of Gastroenterology Medical Resident Clinical Research Award.

💫During fellowship, she has focused on AI applications in gastroenterology, endoscopy, and quality improvement. She is also an American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) Innovation Fellow.

This weekend Dr. Patricia Wanjiru (🇰🇪) and Dr Nkengeh N. Tazinkeng (🇨🇲) met inPerson for the first time.

💫They are both POHER scholar alums

💫Meeting location: Providence, Rhode Island USA
- At the Brown University Division of Gastroenterology fellows versus faculty annual soccer match

💫Nkengeh N. Tazinkeng, MD is a second year internal medicine resident at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center Rutgers Health. He is spending a month at Brown University Division of Gastroenterology for his GI clinical elective

💫 Dr. Patricia Wanjiru is a medical doctor in Kenya. She is currently an intern in the summer research elective at the Ragon Institute of Mass General Brigham, MIT, and Harvard
