We have some wonderful news to share!

On May 27, 2026, Ed Pupillo was recognized with the Inclusion Award by the Missouri Governor's Council on Disability.

And it is easy to see why.

For more than three years, Ed, owner of Pupillo's Wicked Chicken Cafe - Fenton, MO and Grand Slam Restaurant & Bar in Jefferson County, has opened his doors to Lafayette Industries’ StepUP Employment Training Program.

That may sound simple, but it represents a real and ongoing commitment.

Throughout their one to two years in StepUP, young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities are not just learning about work in a classroom. They are learning in a REAL workplace, with expectations, tasks, coworkers, customers, feedback, and support.

Ed’s restaurant staff and StepUP staff work together to help participants build job readiness, communication skills, problem-solving skills, confidence, independence, and workplace habits that matter long after training ends.

What makes this partnership so special is that expectations are not lowered; support is strengthened.

Ed did not treat StepUP as a nice little side project. He built it into the way his restaurants operate.

And the results speak for themselves. 75% percent of StepUP trainees who trained at The Wicked Chicken or Grand Slam have gone on to secure employment in Jefferson County.

We are grateful for Ed’s long-term partnership, not only because of what it has meant for StepUP, but because of what it shows other businesses is possible.

A good community partner does not just open a door — they help hold it open so people can walk through it.

Congratulations, Ed! We are proud to see your commitment recognized statewide by the Missouri Governor’s Council on Disability, and even prouder to call you a Lafayette partner.

Thank you so much to the E. Walter Hausstette Charitable Foundation for stopping by today and delivering a generous contribution to our organization! Board member Diane Czaicki got the VIP treatment as Vicky took her for a tour on the production floor and told her the story of how her generosity turns into training, support and enrichment for Lafayette employees.
