This week at MCL, we're taking a deep dive.

Monday: Head beneath the surface of Lake Champlain with Chris Sabick, Executive Director of the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum, to look for Revolutionary War history resting on the lakebed. It's part of our Vermont 250th lecture series with the Manchester Historical Society.

Tuesday: Samuel de Champlain would approve! Our Fall French Conversation Group with Michelle Emery and Lizzy Lindenberg starts this week. Beginners are welcome from 5:00 to 5:45, and more advanced speakers can join for the second half. Come for one week or all six.

Thursday: Get to know one of Manchester's most beloved characters with Shawn Harrington, Curator at the Manchester Historical Society. Fred Nicklewhite was a tailor, jazz lover, and horse racing fan who lived into his second century and left his mark on our village. It's part of our Threads of History series.

All three are free and open to everyone, with no registration needed. Just come on in. We hope to see you this week!

Are you ready to untangle the Threads of History?

Join MCL and Manchester Vermont Historical Society for a seven-week journey exploring Vermont's printing and textile past. Over three foundational workshops, we're excited to get our hands into the process of creating paper from archived fabrics while learning about Vermont during the Industrial Revolution.

It all starts this Saturday at 11 am with Threads of History: Taconic Music with Tunes and Textiles of the Past

🧚‍♀️ Make sure to visit MCL’s Fairy Condominiums at the Fairy House Festival in Grafton this weekend! Each door was designed and assembled by young artists during our weekly arts program - The Creativity Cave (Wednesdays 3:30-5pm, ages 8+).

Last night, Manchester Community Library welcomed supporters to our annual Evening of Appreciation, a celebration of the people whose generosity makes everything we do possible.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined us, the speakers who shared their stories, and everyone who supports MCL throughout the year. Your generosity helps keep our collections, programs, spaces, and services free and open to all.

As a nonprofit community library, MCL relies on fundraising to cover approximately 70% of our operating budget. Support from individuals, businesses, foundations, and community partners allows the Library to remain a place where everyone can learn, connect, discover, and belong.

Your fall starts here. Our staff and our Manchester Vermont Historical Society neighbors shared their fall bucket lists, and we found something on the shelf for each one: cozy rereads, park passes, a soup cookbook, and a Halloween party.

Join us and MHS for Threads of History, a six-part series tracing a single thread through Manchester's history, from raw textiles to paper mills to the printed word. Programs begin October 3, and you can find the full lineup in the guide.
