Cool nights and bonfires go hand in hand! Our Construction Skills students have been hard at work fabricating BONFIRE PITS and ADIRONDACK CHAIRS, and they’re ready for a new home!

6 bonfire pits available — 2’ x 2’, the perfect size to enjoy and store away!

What better way to get into the competitive spirit than by cheering on some 4 legged ag athletes? While at convention, members got a behind the scenes tour of a harness race track - from walking barns, trying out a racing cart, to… joining the winner’s circle!?!?

We were also fortunate to tour a goat farm that makes great cheeses and other products, from a herd of over 300 goats.

Lastly we also got to visit an antique tractor barn, getting to watch a historic combine harvest beans and see how ag machinery has evolved over the decades.

Thanks to all the ag farms for letting our students experience some of Indiana’s agriculture!

Congratulations to alumni Savannah Crick for being awarded her American FFA Degree at the National FFA Convention! This is the highest degree a member can earn, being based on involvement in FFA and time spend/money earned towards her SAE. Well done Savannah!

In the span of 7 working hours, the Ag Mechanics team:

1) built rafters
2) diagnosed wiring issues on a compact tractor
3) rebuilt a portion of small engines
4) wired a circuit (included 1 breaker, 2 three-way switches, 1 fixture, 1 smart switch)
5) calculated water collection with a provided pump
6) plasma cut and welded a 18” by 12” cutting table
7) completed a math HEAVY exam

They were rated BRONZE as a team, team members individually rating:

SILVER: Ari Fisk, Andree Boggess
BRONZE: Parker Keith, Kolby Jarvis

Congrats to our Premier Chapter speakers for representing us well as NATIONAL FINALIST!

They presented over our annual cooking challenge, this specific one as a Chicken Taco Challenge. The ultimate goal helping teach members how to incorporate fresh vegetables in a home cooked meal.

After an annual submission of activities, multiple rounds at the state and national level help to narrow down chapters from 9000 to only the top 10. Being our 4th time in the finals of recent years is a huge testament to the work done by North Hopkins members over the years.

Shoutout to both Westyn Miles and Aleigha Hughes for sharing our chapter’s story!

Is it even an FFA contest if you didn’t leave something back at school? Luckily our friends at Harbor Freight were able to come in clutch to get us the extra gear we need!

Best of luck to our first team competing this week - Ag Mech spending the next two days showing off their skills in welding, carpentry, electrical, engines, and more!

We’re excited to hear how it goes, being our first CDE team of recent history. Make us proud!

Our 6th annual Fall on the Farm was a success!

450+ second graders from across the county spent the day with our 90+ members to learn various concepts related to the farm. From anatomy of seeds to cuts of meat, pollination to how plants grow… wrapping up the day with each student getting to leave with their very own pumpkin!

What often goes unnoticed is the intention behind this event, being used as a tool to develop freshmen members in countless leadership skills. From working with teams, problem solving on the fly, and of course effective communicating. We’re super proud of this group’s work, and we’re excited to see what their futures hold!

Congrats to our very own, Westyn Miles and Aleigha Hughes, for their performance in the Farm Bureau Outstanding Youth Contest!

As part of this contest, they submitted a resume, underwent a formal interview, and presented a prepared speech over an ag topic of their choice.

Aleigha placed 3rd in the female division, and Westyn placed 1st in the male division! Westyn will now move on to the state level this December.

Thank you to Hopkins County Farm Bureau for this opportunity!

All In for Ag Ed Week: High School Edition! 🐣

This year, we incubated 20 dozen eggs donated by the University of Kentucky! Seven dozen traveled to our local elementary schools for their own hatching experiences, while 13 dozen stayed with our agriculture program.

Throughout their poultry unit, our Animal Science students took responsibility for the incubation process. Students candled eggs each week to monitor embryo development, maintained the incubators, and learned firsthand about poultry reproduction and embryology.

This week, all that work paid off with 154 chicks hatched! 🐥 Students then took over daily chick care, including cleaning brooders, feeding and watering, completing health checks, identifying and sorting by breed, feather sexing, and handling chicks.

Even better, 13 students took chicks home for free to begin or expand their own SAE projects! They now get to take the skills they’ve learned in the classroom and put them into practice at home.

From incubation to daily animal care to student SAEs, this project is a great example of what agricultural education is all about — learning by doing! 💙💛

Ag Ed Week 2026: Hatching the Next Generation!

For Kentucky Ag Ed Week, our elementary schools got to experience one of Kentucky’s top agricultural commodities by hatching their very own flock of chicks!

Earlier this month, each of our 7 elementary schools received 12 hatching eggs from the University of Kentucky’s Poultry Farm, along with an incubator. As the 21 days flew by, new chicks began hatching, giving students the opportunity to experience the excitement of new life throughout the week!

Today, different teaching teams of North Hopkins FFA members traveled to each school to present lessons on eggs, chick development, and the science behind the hatching process.

Even better, these new chicks will go home with our FFA members to help them establish or grow their SAE projects, connecting an elementary classroom experience directly to hands-on agricultural education.

A special shoutout to two Kentucky FFA State Officers who joined us for today’s lessons and helped make the experience even more memorable for our students!

Huge thanks to the University of Kentucky Poultry Farm, our elementary schools, teachers, FFA members, and everyone who helped make this year’s project possible.

What a great way to celebrate Kentucky Ag Ed Week! 🌾🐣💙
