Day 2 began with a reflective and solemn morning at Arlington National Cemetery, where our students witnessed the Changing of the Guard and paid respects at the graves of local hero Joshua Powell and President John F. Kennedy. These moments offered powerful lessons in honor, service, and the price of freedom.
Afterwards, we visited the Petersen House, where President Abraham Lincoln spent his final moments, before heading to lunch at the Hard Rock Cafe D.C.
Our afternoon was filled with discovery at some of Washington’s most iconic museums:
• At the National Archives, students saw the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, connecting classroom lessons to the documents that shaped our nation.
• The National Museum of American History offered a deep dive into our country’s past, from the Star-Spangled Banner, presidential life, the voter’s rights, historic inventions that changed daily life both in home and pop culture.
• At the National Museum of Natural History, students explored fossils, gems, and animal exhibits, learning about the natural world and the science behind it.
We ended the day with a true Maryland specialty: pit beef, enjoying local flavors after a day full of learning and adventure.
From history to science to culture, our students are experiencing the lessons they’ve studied in class in ways that will stay with them for a lifetime!
