United Way of the Coalfield Partners with Child Care Aware® of Kentucky to Assess Local Child Care Needs
Madisonville, KY — The United Way of the Coalfield has partnered with Child Care Aware® of Kentucky to gather critical data on the child care needs of families in Hopkins County and the surrounding area. The initiative includes a community survey designed to better understand access, affordability, and availability of child care services.
Access to reliable, high-quality child care continues to be a pressing issue for working families across Kentucky and a key factor influencing workforce participation. Research from the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce shows that challenges related to child care access and affordability directly affect parents’ ability to enter, remain in, or advance in the workforce, making child care not only a family issue but a broader economic concern.
“Access to affordable and quality child care is essential for working parents and a critical need in Hopkins County,” said Ashley Alexander, executive director of the United Way of the Coalfield. “By collecting local data, we can better understand the challenges families face and work collaboratively to identify solutions that support both parents and the workforce.”
The child care needs survey is currently open to parents, caregivers, employers, and community members. Survey responses will help guide future planning, funding priorities, and advocacy efforts aimed at strengthening the local child care system.
Child Care Aware® of Kentucky is the state’s regional network for child care resource and referral services, supporting families’ access to safe, affordable, quality child care while also providing professional development opportunities for child care providers and trainers. The organization works closely with child care providers and community partners to expand access to quality early care and education across the Commonwealth. The group is housed at the Human Development Institute (HDI) at the University of Kentucky, which serves as Kentucky’s University Center for Excellence on Developmental Disabilities and is part of a national network focused on advancing inclusive communities, addressing disparities, and improving quality of life for people with disabilities across the lifespan.
Community members are encouraged to participate in the survey and help shape the future of child care in Hopkins County.
