Teague Cemetery 42431 To establish a maintenance program for care of Teague Cemetery

02/22/2026

As of 2/20/26, the cemetery is looking good. All is brown with leaves and nothing is growing. This is the end of the third year clean and the Hopkins County Jail Community Service has done a wonderful job keeping it so. Nicer flags were placed on our veteran sites last year (5/30/25), and I look forward to the coming year. Some of the headstones that genealogy placed have fallen over, due to the weather, but it still looks like a cemetery, instead of an abandoned lot. I saw a small tree blown over on the southside of the cemetery, and the usual winter limbs to pick up, but no real work to undertake. Wish us good fortune keeping it cleaned up this fourth year. Take a visit!

We now have a sign,"Teague Cemetery", which can be seen from the street (West Broadway).

Teague Cemetery looks great as of March 2025. One new tree is down and the one that was hung up in another tree last year has come down so we can get to it. Pictures will be on website shortly. Time to make a visit before ticks and other bugs hatch.

We made progress this year at Teague Cemetery. Many head stones are in place (marked unknown). Some w**ds are evident, but will be sprayed in the spring. No raking will be done, as this would encourage w**d growth. Sunken graves will not be filled in, due to VA guidelines. So ends the second year of clean up at Teague. Looks like maintenance is progressing as expected. We expect spraying and a couple days of w**d eating during the growth period next year will be all that's needed next year.

Went to the cemetery today, and it looks great. The w**d killer used seems to have done the trick, and all the headstones really look good. Quite a difference from 2022. You should pay a visit now that it's clean. See if you can find those you may know.

Many head stones are in place, and pictures are forth coming. Thanks to the HCJCS program, the many volunteers, genealogy, and the Hopkins County Historical Department. It looks like the second year at Teague Cemetery will be as good as the first.

I sprayed the w**ds and am waiting to see how this herbicide works. Now, many of the head stones have been erected, and Teague Cemetery is starting to look like a cemetery again. So, if you know where someone’s grave site is located, contact Mrs. Teressa May with that information (270-327-1876).

The recent wind storm left damage in the cemetery, which was cleaned up with the help of the Hopkins County Jail Community Service Program (Sgt. J. Maxberry, many thanks), along with Kraig and his lumber jacking skills. Meanwhile Mrs. Teresa May and her group placed 200 flags at grave sites of unknown souls, so Sgt. Maxberry and his crew can place head stones (which they have been working on all winter) at each grave, marked “UNKOWN”.

It has been a while since I have posted, so let’s catch up. On May 30th, Kraig placed new flags on our veteran grave sites, which were donated again this year by American Legion Post 6. I wish I had more than “Thank You” for their generosity. Post 6 should have more accolades for the support they have shown.

Happy Shamrock day. I'm planting potato's today. More cemetery news to come soon.

Teague Cemetery is one year clear! I posted a few photos that Sgt. Maxberry captured on the first day of the clean up, just for comparison. He and his crew have done a wonderful job.

The cemetery has survived the winter in good shape. A week ago only daffodils were growing. It looks like spot spraying will be the call to keep w**ds at bay thru out the year. If you have never seen the south end of the cemetery, now might be the time to check it out (before the ticks and other bugs take over). Teague Cemetery is in good shape now.
