🎃➡️🎄 Status update from the North Pole: the elves are… not okay. 🍬😵

After a VERY big Halloween night, Santa's workshop is covered in candy wrappers, and three elves were found asleep inside a giant bag of candy corn. The time change has further disoriented them today, so the elves are in for a challenging day. 🕐

But Santa says there's no time to rest, because registration for Santa's Fire Truck Gift Delivery is OPEN! 🚒🎅

This December, Santa trades the sleigh for a North Madison fire truck and delivers your child's gift right to your front door.

📅 Sunday, Dec 13 & Sunday, Dec 20
☀️ Morning 9–12 | 🌤️ Afternoon 1–4
🎁 $30 per gift

⚠️ Santa only has so many hours behind the wheel. Grab your spot before the elves wake up!

🔥 Training Today for a Safer Tomorrow! 🔥

This morning members of the North Madison Volunteer Fire Company participated in a Live Fire Behavior Class held at the Guilford Fire Department Training Facility.

This hands-on training provided our firefighters with valuable experience in understanding fire behavior, recognizing changing fire conditions, use of thermal imaging cameras, and improving their skills in the fireground environment.

We are proud of our members for their continued commitment to training, professional development, and the safety of our community.

A special thank you to the Guilford Fire Department for providing the training facility and instructors, helping make this valuable learning opportunity possible.

This week, members of the North Madison Volunteer Fire Company attended the Exchange Club of Madison’s annual Salute to the Bravest dinner, where the Exchange Club recognizes a firefighter from each of Madison’s fire companies.

This year, Ed Wolff was recognized for his 18 years of service to the NMVFC and the community. Ed is a former Deputy Chief, has served in several leadership roles, and remains one of our most active responders.

Congratulations, Ed, on a well-deserved recognition!

Thank you to the Exchange Club of Madison for its continued support of our local firefighters, its generosity, and a great evening!

This week, NMVFC members drilled on vehicle extrication, focusing on stabilizing vehicles with recently updated equipment.

Unfortunately, motor vehicle crashes make up a significant part of our emergency responses. Regular training and equipment updates help us meet those challenges and safely reach, treat, and free anyone trapped in a vehicle.

Stop by on Sunday, October 4, 2026!

Families are invited to kick off National Fire Prevention Week at the North Madison Volunteer Fire Company's Annual Open House! Meet your local firefighters, tour the firehouse, climb aboard the fire trucks, and walk through the fire safety smoke trailer to practice finding a safe way out. The day will also feature live fire safety demonstrations, kid-friendly activities, and free light refreshments.

This year's Fire Prevention Week theme is "Safe Charging is a Superpower," focused on the safe charging of lithium-ion batteries in phones, laptops, e-bikes, scooters, and toys. Stop by to learn simple tips your whole family can use at home.

The event is free and open to all. We hope to see you there!

For more than 24 hours, North Madison Volunteer Fire Company members have responded to call after call alongside our partners in EMS, law enforcement, and the Madison Hose Company. Utility crews are also working hard to address the damage. We appreciate everyone’s efforts.

Many unsafe conditions remain. Please take extra care if you need to go out:

• Treat every downed wire as live. Do not approach it or drive over it.
• Stay away from fallen trees and branches. Power lines may be tangled in them, even when you cannot see the wires.
• Do not walk or drive through areas marked off with cones, tape, or barricades by emergency services or utility crews. Find another route.
• If you see a downed wire, keep your distance and call 911.

Please give crews room to work and check on your neighbors when it is safe to do so. Thank you for your patience as the response and cleanup continue. Be safe!

The storm has barely begun and roads are closed with wires down as well as some roads on the shoreline flooding. Volunteers will be staffing the firehouse to respond more effectively to emergencies this weekend.

UPDATE: Note from the Madison Health Department Regarding the Boil Water Notice

To All Madison Food Service Establishments

CT Water has issued a boil water notice affecting Madison. Please note: positive samples were limited to the Essex area. All samples in our portion of the system have shown no detections, and this notice is a regulatory precaution.

Effective immediately, all food service establishments must follow boil water precautions: boil all water used for drinking, food preparation, ice, washing produce, and the final rinse for warewashing (or use bottled/commercially packaged water). Ice machines, soda fountains, and spray misters connected to the water supply must also follow precautions.

If your establishment cannot feasibly operate under these precautions, you must voluntarily close until the notice is lifted. We anticipate sample results late tomorrow afternoon.

---

Do not drink your tap water without boiling it first.

This is a message from The Connecticut Water Company for customers served by our Chester System (PWSID # CT0261031) in Deep River, Essex and Chester and our Guilford Water System (PWSID # CT0608011) in Old Saybrook, Westbrook, Clinton, Madison and Guilford.

We have detected E. coli, a harmful bacteria, during routine testing at one sample point in Essex and have issued a mandatory boil water order.

The bacteria can potentially make you ill. They may pose a special health risk for infants, young children, some of the elderly, and people with severely compromised immune systems.

Until further notice, you should bring your tap water to a boil for one minute, and then let it cool before drinking it, using it in food preparation, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes.

We have consulted with the Connecticut Department of Public Health and are doing additional sampling at numerous locations in our delivery system. We expect results from those tests in 24 hours.

A copy of this notice and all further updates is also available here: https://www.ctwater.com/contact-help-center/service-alerts/
