Investing in Medications for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) treatment programs are effective!

Federal and state investments in opioid treatment and overdose prevention have played a role in reducing opioid related deaths and hospitalizations. In the last five years, Wisconsin has seen a slight decrease in both opioid use related deaths (approximately 0.42% decrease between 2021 and 2023) and emergency room hospitalizations (an 18% decrease).

🎉 Exciting Announcement! 🎉

Last week, HHS and HRSA announced a historic $102 million investment to expand the Health Center Program. The funding will support 158 new and existing Health Centers nationwide in their ability to expand access to primary care services, including three Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) in Wisconsin: Rock River Community Clinic, Muslim Community & Health Center, and Pillar Health, a Division of KCHC.

To overcome operational barriers, CHCs may need support with developing policies and procedures that work for their patient populations, staffing models, electronic health records and reporting tools, and more.

Operationalizing MOUD services also requires the development of a set of policies and procedures—such as a screening tool and triage workflow—that ensure that patients are routed to the appropriate level of MOUD treatment services.
