After being released, Daniel faced overwhelming challenges — no stable housing, no reliable transportation, and no clear path to a meaningful job. Regardless, he never stopped looking for a way forward.

Through the WETAP program, Daniel gained access to a safe, reliable vehicle, and that one resource changed everything. He found better career opportunities in a field he enjoyed, secured a place to live, and is now building toward even bigger goals like owning a home.

And perhaps most powerfully — Daniel is 27 months sober and by his own words, "in one of the best spots of my life." 🙏

We are so proud of everything Daniel has accomplished, and can't wait to see what he does next!

🌷 Some nominations are for one person. This one is for 18. Our Program Coordinator Kathy isn't picking just one mom to celebrate this month — because every woman on her team deserves to be seen.

Across Adams, Forest, Juneau, Langlade, Lincoln, Marathon, Oneida, Portage, Price, Taylor, Vilas, and Wood counties, these FEP Specialists, Career Planners, Education Navigators, Job Developers, and more show up every day with compassion and genuine care for individuals and families navigating unemployment and underemployment. They don't just provide services — they uplift, encourage, and empower people to dream bigger.

And when the workday ends? They go home to families who need them just as much.

Between them, these 18 women are mothers and grandmothers to 38 children and 11 grandchildren — plus a household crew of 15 dogs, 9 cats, 5 chickens, 1 lizard, and 1 chinchilla. 🐾🐓🦎

They do it all — with grace, patience, and more than a little humor.

🌷 This month, we're honoring the incredible moms across the FSC family — and today's spotlight came straight from the heart of one of her teammates.

Zana, our WIOA team lead in Niagra, was nominated by her coworker, Paige. And here's what Paige had to say:

💬 "Zana has a way to her where she can balance everything with patience, strength, and so much care — and it really shows in how she talks about her son and the choices she makes for him. She has such a calm, thoughtful way of looking at things, and it's helped me approach situations with more confidence and understanding. The advice she has given me about parenting has stuck with me more than she probably realizes — especially the reminders to give myself grace, to stay consistent, and to really be present in the little moments."

Some people make you a better employee. Some make you a better person. Zana does both. 💚

🎓 Last week, 22 graduating seniors in our Upward Bound programs from Madison East High School and La Follette High School gathered with their families, program staff, and community partners for a Senior Next Steps Workshop — an evening focused on college, career, and workforce readiness.

The evening included:
🎥 A senior recognition video celebrating each student's journey
✉️ A "Letter to Self" journaling activity to set intentional goals for the road ahead
🎤 A panel discussion with UB/UBMS alumni and professionals and the SSS STEM Academic Advisor from University of Wisconsin-Madison
🎙️ Speakers shared powerful messages on perseverance, adaptability, and self-advocacy

At the heart of the evening was a powerful message: you don't have to navigate what comes next alone. Upward Bound is committed to walking alongside first-generation students as they step into higher education and the workforce — with the tools, plans, and people to help them thrive.

🌷 This month, we're celebrating the incredible moms on our FSC team. Today, meet Sarah — a W2 Case Worker in Oshkosh who brings dedication to her community every day, and even more to her family at home.

💚 Her favorite part of motherhood? Watching her kids grow up and take on their own personalities, interests, and strengths. The highlight of her week is cheering them on at sports practices and games.

"FSC has supported me as a parent by having the flexibility to work from home when they're sick, or don't have school. I also have the flexibility to adjust my schedule to leave early a couple days a week to get my son to hockey practice, and I have so much PTO I never have to worry about being able to take off for tournaments, holiday break, or taking a vacation."

💬 Her advice for moms: "It's okay to not be perfect every day. Kids don't come with a manual, none of us know what we're doing — everything's fine!"

We're so grateful for Sarah and every mom on our team who shows up fully — for their families and for the families they serve. Happy Mother's Month, Sarah! 🌸

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember and honor the courageous individuals who gave their lives for our country. Their sacrifice ensures the freedoms we cherish today, and we are forever grateful.

In observance, our offices will be closed today. We will resume our normal hours tomorrow, ready to continue serving our clients and helping them move forward toward their dreams.

Thank you to all who have served and sacrificed.

Today's spotlight belongs to Alleigh, our Refugee Services Team Lead serving Brown County — a leader whose care for her team goes far beyond the job description.

Alleigh was nominated by her colleague Philip, who put it perfectly:
"Alleigh is a person with a great leadership spirit. During the month in which we honor Mothers and motherly figures, we should not overlook Alleigh's genuine motherly care for her team and the company. Alleigh's ever-readiness to show up for her team whenever in need is the best advice in action for me to learn a spirit of Leadership."

There's a special kind of leader who makes everyone around them feel seen, supported, and never alone — and that's exactly who Alleigh is. Her willingness to show up, every single time, isn't just good leadership. It's a form of love. 💛
