People from all walks of life and all ages come for programs and services that make their lives — and our community — stronger. Goodman currently houses a preschool, 4-year-old kindergarten, afterschool programs for all ages (including countywide Girls Inc.), an alternative high school, an older adult program, food pantry and a fitness center. We also rent our rooms out to individuals, private corporations and community groups on a daily basis. Since opening our new building in 2008, Goodman has served around 25,000 people each year through our programs, services and facility rentals. and Robert D. Goodman Community Center, but you can simply call us The Goodman Community Center.

A visit from Ms. Junko (aka Music with Junebug) is always a highlight for our preschoolers. Through our partnership with Madison Children's Museum, she brings music, movement and so much joy to our classrooms. Not pictured here is Ms. Junko running around the playground playing the ukelele while the kids dashed after her. Pure magic 🎶✨

With a new school year comes a new round of high school's Youth Voice Council (YVC) 📣

YVC takes a select group of high schoolers in TEENworks and introduces them to the program evaluation process. Guided by our center's strategy team, YVC addresses places where youth programming can improve based on students' experiences and opinions. Together they build and conduct surveys, analyze their data and use what they find to make changes in targeted areas. The students also get presentation experience and certifications, like the Certificate in Foundations of Research, Evaluation, and Policy from the Wisconsin Center for Research at UW-Madison.

Last year this process lead the group to evaluate and implement a new teen snack protocol for after school. They were also on the ground floor of our upcoming playground renovation, recording elementary and preschool equipment dreams. This summer they started helping middle and high school redesign their spaces and update furnishings.

We're eager to see what ideas and projects YVC takes charge of this year! Because when youth have a say within their own programs, those programs become exactly what they need.

Why is Wisconsin America's premier sausage destination? Learn about "The Weird and Wonderful History of the Wisconsin Sausage" from Jesse Brookstein (pictured) this Wednesday (10/7) in our Ironworks building 🌭

Brookstein is the author of four books celebrating Wisconsin sausage, ranging from the history of landjaeger in Green County to an exploration of Madison's abandoned Oscar Mayer facility. His latest book, Best of the Wurst: Weird and Wonderful Stories of Wisconsin Sausage, was published by the Wisconsin Historical Society Press and serves as the first true deep-dive into Wisconsin's rich and diverse sausage history. Jesse is also the founder of Madison's Third Lake Sausage Shop, which specializes in sausage-related books and gifts.

4,000 holiday meals is thousands of pounds of groceries (and that's just the non-perishables). The more food drives there are, the easier it is to get all the non-perishables we need BEFORE the first family picks up their basket in November.

Let your creativity drive your drive! Throwing a birthday party? Have guests bring food donations instead of gifts. Go door-to-door around your neighborhood. Compete with friends. Create and distribute posters (or use our pre-made graphics) and post to social media.
