MUNDO IN ACTION | Tomacaya, Cusco, Peru 🇵🇪

This August, Mundo Esperanza organized and coordinated a trip to our Water Distribution Project in Tomacaya, Cusco, Peru, bringing together many of the partners who have worked to make this project possible.

After nearly three years of planning, engineering, fundraising, and collaboration, we reached an exciting milestone: construction of the new water distribution system is underway!

Our partners include the Community of Tomacaya, Rotary Club Julio J. Delgado–Cusco, Rotary Club of Madison, Engineers Without Borders–USA, EWB–UW Madison, the Madison–Cusco Sister City Alliance, and our many friends and partners in Peru.

While each organization brings different skills and resources to the project, we share a common purpose: using humanitarian engineering to work alongside communities to create practical, sustainable solutions that improve people's lives.

During our time in Tomacaya, we didn't just observe the project. We participated in the work, met with community leaders and engineers, reviewed progress in the field, and continued strengthening the relationships that will carry the project forward.

This is Mundo Esperanza in action — bringing people, communities, technical expertise, and resources together and turning partnerships into action.

We are excited to once again be part of the Harry Whitehorse International Wood Sculpture Festival this Saturday at San Damiano Park in Monona.

The Madison–Cusco Sister City Alliance, in partnership with Mundo Esperanza, will be presenting a traditional Peruvian Pachamanca—an ancient Andean earth oven feast where food is cooked beneath hot stones and shared in community.

Pachamanca means "earth oven" in Quechua and is one of Peru's oldest culinary traditions. Join us as we bring a taste of the Andes to Wisconsin through food, culture, and friendship.

Join us for The Wisdom of Water,
from the ancient canals of the Andes to the waters of the Great Lakes.

This powerful EarthFest symposium, hosted by Mundo Esperanza in collaboration with the Nelson Institute’s Center for Culture, History, and the Environment (CHE), brings together Indigenous leaders, scholars, and engineers to explore how ancient knowledge can guide modern sustainability.

From the ancient canals of the Andes to the waters of the Great Lakes, this event explores our relationship with water, past and present, and what it can teach us about living sustainably today, across cultures and landscapes throughout the Americas.

Join Mundo Esperanza for Earth Day as we participate in the Nelson Institute for Environment Studies EarthFest.

We are partnering again with the Center for Culture, History and the Environment to bring Cuzquenan native Constantino Aucca Chutas to speak about reforest efforts in the mountain jungle of Cuzco Peru. Jennifer Gauthier on how Indigenous knowledge leads climate change, food systems, and sustainability related projects and research.
