Approximately 100 people attended New York #1’s Flag Day Ceremony, including 21 veterans and staff from St. Albans VA. Participating in the ceremony were representatives from the Lynbrook Police Dept., the Boy Scouts and the Long Island Society of Italian Americans.

During the History of the Flag, Chief Brian Paladino of the Lynbrook PD, the Boy Scouts, and several visiting veterans assisted in carrying the various flags used in the ceremony.

Lodge scholarships were awarded to five graduating seniors who are grandchildren of our members. A plaque was also awarded to our NY State First Place winner in the Americanism Essay Contest.

After the ceremony, a buffet dinner was served. Our Veterans committee served dinner to the veterans.

Thank you to all who planned and helped make it a great day.

Arrangements for Past District Deputy Paul Crumb of Peekskill Lodge #744 - Hudson Valley District #6180

06/15/2026

To say we lost a great man is an understatement. We lost one of the best Elks, but more so, a true and genuine human being.

This past Saturday, the NYSEA lost our newly elected State Treasurer, Paul H. Crumb. Paul was not only an asset to Peekskill Lodge #744 and the Hudson Valley District, he was an asset to the entire NYS Elks Association. Paul spent countless hours assisting several of our Lodges throughout the State. He would travel from one end of the State to the other to help those who needed it, asking for nothing in return—his only reward was simply knowing he helped.

On a personal note, Paul was nothing but kind and generous to Staci, Julia, and me. He was one of my biggest supporters and stepped up to organize a very successful fundraiser for us. We enjoyed fantastic dinners together, and we are so grateful that he traveled to the South Central District last Fall with PSP John Lawless and First Lady Maureen. We were able to spend a lot of quality time with him, and we had an absolutely fantastic time.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Crumb family and to the entire State Association. He was a true Elk, and I hope that all of us carry his passion for Elkdom forward.

To Our Absent Member - Paul H. Crumb, PDDGER, NYSEA Treasurer

State Vice President Lisa Moldovan flew to Chicago this weekend to walk in her 5th Overnight Walk Out of the Darkness to benefit the American Foundation for Su***de Prevention. With the help of the New York Elks Lodge #1 (her largest donor yearly), many New York State Elks Association Elks and friends, she raised over $2500 for this worthy cause.

Participants of the Overnight walk a route of approximately 16 miles from dusk until dawn to raise money for su***de prevention research, educational programs, and advocacy.

While at the walk, she met West Haven Connecticut #1537 Lodge Chaplain Heather Sayers. Just Elks doing what Elks do! Wish these ladies well as they embark on a meaningful 16+ miles through Chicago, just 3 weeks before the Elks National Convention comes to the Second City.

On Saturday June 6th Exalted Ruler Brian Steckler participated as a volunteer at a special needs baseball game ran by the Yes We Can organization.

It was a phenomenal event where many players were able to come out on a beautiful day for a little fun and exercise. Many of the participants live in group homes and were thrilled to be outdoors having such a great time.

On Thursday, June 4th, Exalted Ruler Brian Steckler attended the Valley Stream North High School awards night to present to this year's recipient of the NY Lodge #1 scholarship award, Dulce Manarique-Flores.

She is very philanthropically minded. She volunteers at the Long Island Jewish Hospital in the elder care unit and tutors and mentors in her free time. She is 3rd in her graduating class. Congratulations Dulce!
