Today, we remember all those who were affected by the horrors of October 7 and in the time that followed. We mourn those who were murdered. We rejoice and give thanks for the hostages that were returned. We keep the friends and the families of those who have died, as well as the members of communities that were attacked, close to our hearts.

We honor those who helped friends and strangers, those who defended their communities, and those who are still fighting to protect Israel and its people. And we deeply respect the resilience and perseverance of the Israelis who have worked to rebuild their families, their communities, and all that was broken on October 7.

As a Reform Jewish community, we affirm Israel’s right to exist and to defend its people, while holding fast to our commitment to the sanctity of every human life. May the memories of those murdered be a blessing, and may we all work towards safety, strength, and a lasting peace.

Rabbi David Saperstein is director emeritus of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, having served as its director and counsel for 40 years.

The first rabbi in American history to have been designated a U.S. Ambassador, during the second term of the Obama administration, Rabbi Saperstein served as the United States Ambassador-at-Large for International Religious Freedom, carrying out his responsibilities as the country's chief diplomat on religious freedom issues. In this capacity, he served as a principal advisor to Secretary Kerry and President Obama on issues of international religious freedom) and traveled widely as America's advocate for religious freedom and for the security of religious minorities across the globe.

🍎 **Caring Community in Action** 🍯

Our Caring Community volunteers came together at Temple to prepare, cook, package, and deliver Rosh Hashanah dinners to congregants who might otherwise be alone for the holiday. ❤️

We are so grateful for the time, care, and kindness our volunteers shared to help make the holiday a little sweeter for members of our Temple community.
