400,000 bushels. 108 railcars. One important reminder of the impact U.S. sorghum can have around the world.

This week, NSP Chair Amy France and board member Jim Sipes visited Kansas to see a 108-car train being loaded with approximately 400,000 bushels of U.S. sorghum for Food for Peace programs under USDA administration.

Shipments of this scale demonstrate the value of Food for Peace as a tool that supports demand for U.S.-grown commodities while delivering food assistance around the world. From sorghum fields to international markets, America’s farmers continue to play an important role in feeding a growing world.

Thank you to Skyland Grain for hosting us and for their continued partnership in moving sorghum through the supply chain and creating opportunities for producers.

Directly following President Trump’s trip to China, NSP Legislative Director Elissa Gilliam traveled to China with the U.S. Grains & BioProducts Council and other agricultural leaders to meet with industry and trade representatives.

The visit was an important opportunity to strengthen long-standing relationships, reinforce the value of U.S. sorghum and continue opening doors for sorghum farmers in one of our crop’s most important export markets.

NSP Chair Amy France was proud to join USDA Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs Luke Lindberg, Congressman Tracey Mann, Senator Jerry Moran and Kansas agricultural leaders in Manhattan, Kan., for important discussions on trade, Food for Peace and the role of American agriculture in global food security.

Under Secretary Lindberg has been a strong champion for U.S. farmers, ranchers and American-grown commodities. His leadership in returning Food for Peace to USDA reflects exactly the kind of producer-focused vision needed to strengthen global food aid, expand opportunities for U.S. agriculture and ensure American farmers remain at the center of feeding the world.

National Sorghum Producers strongly supports Under Secretary Lindberg’s nomination to serve as executive director of the World Food Programme. His understanding of agriculture, trade and food security makes him exceptionally well suited to lead this critical organization.
