Farm2People loves feeding our community! 🍇

Fun fact about us ✨:
Farm2People does not have a warehouse; rather, we use a cross docking model and work with partners to get our food where it needs to go. This method allows us to keep our overhead costs low and direct more money towards our farmers (and therefore bring more food to the community)! Leave us any questions you have about our cross dock model in the comments below ➡️

We made it to the weekend! We hope you can all take a deep breath and find your source of calm. During these tiring times, it is so important to take care of yourself 💚

¡Llegamos al fin de semana! Esperamos que todos puedan respirar profundamente y que encuentren su fuente de calma. En estos tiempos tan difíciles, es muy importante cuidarse a uno mismo.

Meet Brittny Wilson, one of Farm2People’s board members! Brittny runs a consulting and recruitment firm where she helps nonprofits build strong development strategies; with this expertise, she helps Farm2People with our growth and fundraising goals. 🌾 Fun fact: we actually started out as a client of hers!

Brittny feels passionate about Farm2People because our work has two clear and meaningful beneficiaries: farmers are paid fairly for their crops 👩🏻‍🌾, and communities gain access to fresh, nutritious food 🍎 through trusted partners like food banks.

Outside of work, Brittny loves to spend time outside with her family. She enjoys a perfectly ripe summer tomato (who doesn’t!), and she is obsessed with Halloween. 🎃 Last summer, a volunteer pumpkin plant in her yard produced 11 white pumpkins – she was thrilled!

Do you know the link between food justice and correctional centers? Well, look no further than Impact Justice!

➡️ Impact Justice is a national research and innovation center expanding access to opportunity for people impacted by the criminal justice system, and a large portion of their work relates to food. We distilled some of their project and findings into these slides, so dig in to get an overview about why prison food is a food justice issue.

TLDR? Offering dignified and nutritious meals 🥕 in correctional facilities is an opportunity to improve people’s mental and physical wellbeing and can contribute to rehabilitation.

Follow Impact Justice for more info and support their work!!

New friend alert 🔔 Watts Labor Community Action Committee is a legacy org, founded in the 1960s, dedicated to improving the quality of life for South Central Los Angeles residents.

As Senior Services Director Keenan Davis shared with us, WLCAC was started “by union leader Ted Watkins, just months before the Watts Rebellion to combat severe economic and racial injustice” and the org was a critical force in rebuilding the community in the aftermath.

Now, with programs ranging from youth and senior services to healthy food access to affordable housing to employment resources and much more, WLCAC is truly a powerhouse. They even established their very own urban ag site: the iconic , which we hope to visit soon! We met them through another key org that you need to know about — Seeds of Hope — and both orgs helped us distribute fresh fruit and veggies for seniors!! Shout out to Dave for helping us put these senior boxes together!

We are endlessly grateful to be in community with so many wonderful, values-aligned orgs 🌱

Check out Farm2People’s impact for the month of April! We remain steadfast in our commitment to maintaining an equitable supply chain and bridging the gap between our local and regional farms and the LA community. In April, those efforts included supporting 28 farms, delivering 157,029 lbs of produce and providing 1,122,249 servings of fruits and vegetables to food seekers in the Greater LA area! We are deeply grateful to our donors, funders, and supporters who are passionate about local food systems and healthy food access; your support enables all that we do!

California’s agricultural bounty is vibrant, inspiring, and delicious 🍓 But also… real talk – did you know that 1 in 4 households in Los Angeles is food insecure, struggling to access enough food? And 1 in 5 LA households is nutrition insecure, defined by USC Dornsife as lacking “consistent access to healthy, safe and culturally appropriate foods.”

We share these numbers not to bum you out but to highlight how relevant Farm2People’s work is! We are working to increase access to fresh, nutritious fruits and vegetables 🌽 for Angelenos who need it most, and we have distributed 29 million servings of regenerative produce since our founding! Meanwhile, we make sure our work supports independent farmers 👨🏽‍🌾 and helps them keep growing that nourishing food.

If you want to learn more about our efforts to fight hunger in LA and strengthen the regional food system, make sure to subscribe to our newsletter! We share monthly updates about Farm2People’s work, our impact, and reflections on current topics in food and farming. 📝

Act now to save small farmers in California! 🌱 🍓 🍊

We need the state of California to fund LFPA, a cancelled federal program that has provided immense support to small farmers.

California lost 10% of its farms between 2017–2022. Programs like LFPA are how we fight back — but only if the state funds them. Help protect local farmers by urging your state representatives to fund LFPA!

What is LFPA?

The Local Food Purchase Assistance Program (LFPA) connects small farmers with food banks to provide healthy, fresh, local, and culturally relevant produce to California families in need while providing market access for small farmers.

So far, LFPA has:
🧑‍🌾 → Supported 833 small farmers in California
💰 → Purchased $60 million in local food
🍽️ → Fed Californians in 53 counties
📈 → Provided a fair and stable market channel for farmers
🍏 → Distributed nutrient-dense produce to 55 Food Banks & Community Organizations

Take action 🫵 Call your state rep and urge them to fund LFPA. Script and instructions in bio!
