Our 2025–2026 Impact Report is officially live. 🌟

Every page reflects what’s possible when this community shows up for children, youth, and families navigating complex legal and child welfare systems.

This past year:
• 5,700+ children and caregivers received direct legal advocacy.
• 500+ adoptions out of foster care were finalized into permanent homes.
• $2M+ in wrongfully denied public benefits reached families who needed them.
• AB 495 became law, protecting parental rights and allowing families to name a trusted caregiver during sudden separation.

🏠 Every young person deserves a safe place to call home.

Proposition 1, the Veterans and Affordable Housing Bond Act of 2026, includes $150 million dedicated to creating housing for current and former foster youth and young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

Proposition 1 recognizes that stable housing is foundational to education, opportunity, and the ability to build a future. Investing specifically in youth who are navigating housing instability means creating pathways to stability in a moment when support can make a lasting difference."

Today, October 12th, the Alliance is closed in observance of Indigenous Peoples' Day as we honor the sovereignty, history, and enduring contributions of Native American communities. 🙌🌎
​Honoring Indigenous communities means standing up for Native youth and families. We remain committed to partnering with tribal nations to protect Native children in foster care, safeguard family connections, and uphold the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA). Keeping children rooted in their culture, community, and kinship networks isn't just best practice—it is essential to their well-being.

From supporting relative caregivers navigating legal systems to ensuring children in foster care stay rooted in their heritage, real support starts at home. 🏡

🎉 Big news for California children, caregivers, and families! Governor Newsom has signed three Alliance-sponsored bills that will help children get timely support and stay connected to the people who care for them.

✅ AB 1689 helps juvenile courts resolve conflicts involving temporary probate guardianships so placement and support decisions are not unnecessarily delayed.

✅ AB 2478 creates a dedicated approval process for relatives and other trusted caregivers, reducing barriers to family-based placements.

✅ SB 1051 makes it easier to connect eligible children in foster care with emergency child care by allowing Bridge Program navigators to refer them directly to county child welfare agencies for voucher approval.

Together, these reforms support more stable care and stronger family connections. 💙

What does it mean to let a young person choose where and with whom they live? AB 2802 was designed to answer that question for transition-age youth in transitional housing, and two years in, there's a lot to learn from how it's playing out.

CA Alliance's Adrienne Shilton and Selena Liu Raphael will join a panel of housing providers for this webinar, hosted by Alliance for Children's Rights , to share insights on what's improved, what still needs work, and how providers can better support youth in these decisions.

Cuando una familia enfrenta una separación inesperada, mantener la conexión y trabajar hacia la reunificación puede marcar una diferencia importante en el bienestar de los niños y las niñas.
AB 495, la Ley de Planificación para la Preparación Familiar, brinda herramientas para ayudar a proteger a los niños y apoyar las conexiones familiares durante períodos de separación.

👨‍👩‍👧 La reunificación significa volver a estar juntos. Cuando un padre, una madre o una persona con responsabilidad parental puede volver a cuidar de su hijo o hija, contar con información clara, apoyo de personas de confianza y continuidad en la escuela, el cuidado infantil, la atención médica y las rutinas diarias puede ayudar a que la transición de regreso al cuidado familiar sea más sencilla.

Cada familia tiene un camino diferente hacia la reunificación. Lo importante es que los niños y las niñas reciban apoyo, mantengan sus conexiones familiares y que las familias puedan volver a estar juntas cuando sea seguro y posible.
