Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC)

Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC) Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC) is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization. Belvoir, the southern portion of the Route 1 corridor and portions of Newington.

Our goal is to break the cycle of poverty in southeast Fairfax County and prevent homelessness. LCAC has provided food, clothing, emergency financial assistance and outreach programs to southeastern Fairfax County for over 40 years. Found in 1975 as an all-volunteer organization, LCAC has grown to a staff of 10 (full and part-time) relying on more than 800 volunteers to serve over 300 families eac

h week through our programs. LCAC serves residents that live in the following areas of southeast Fairfax County: Lorton, Ft.

The Lorton Farmer's Market reopened for the season in May. Over the course of the month, our partner vendors Little Green Farm, Ochoa Produce, and Linda Vista Farm donated over 6,000 pounds of fresh produce! Thank you!

Over the week of May 5th, we distributed potting soil and fabric grow bags for clients who received green bean plant kits in March. The original kit included a small bag of soil, 2–3 bean seeds, and a growing container to help families get started growing at home.

1-2 times a month, our Client Services Administrator, Elsa, hands out recipe cards to go with pre-made bundles of ingredients. We thought we would share this recipe with you!

Ingredients:
1 can of chickpeas
1 can of tuna
1/2 red onion, diced
1 tomato, diced
1 avocado, diced
1 tbsp chopped cilantro

Lemon Mustard Dressing:
Juice of lemon
4 tsp olive oil
1 tsp mustard
1 tsp cilantro
Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:
Place the chickpeas, tuna, chopped onion, chopped tomatoes, avocado, and cilantro into a salad bowl. Add the lemon mustard dressing and mix well

We hand out hundreds of snack packs every week for LCAC kiddos! Although we receive many snack donations, it is harder to stock these packs with halal items. Will you help by donating items for our halal snack packs?

Here is a list of acceptable items:
- Mott's or Annie's Fruit Snack Gummies
- Individually packed raisins
- Individual nut packs
- Applesauce or fruit cups
- Snack-sized bags of Pirate's B***y, Pringles, Veggie Straws, Cheez-its, or Pepperidge Farm Goldfish.
- Microwave popcorn bags.
