We will welcome Mateo Moreno (Mateo Manuel Moreno) on May 12 for our Star-Guest Speaker Series.

Ahead of the event, we asked him to share reflections on communication, inclusion, and his experiences using augmentative and alternative communication (AAC).

Here is what he shared with us.

Question:“What is one thing that you wish more people knew or understood about AAC?”

Answer:
“I wish everyone knew how smart and capable we are.”— Mateo Moreno

Too often, AAC users are underestimated because they communicate differently. Communication method does not determine intelligence, potential, leadership, or value.

At Impaact_voices, we believe AAC users deserve to be heard, respected, included, and given equal opportunities in every area of life.

“Visible representations and community for people with speech disabilities matter.”
— Alma Silver

Alma’s reflection highlights why representation, visibility, and community matter — and why AAC user-led spaces are essential.

Through ImpAACt Voices, AAC users come together to share lived experience, build connection, and lead with confidence.

As we close out the year, your support helps keep AAC user-led programs free and accessible, empowering AAC users to lead, connect, and thrive.

We are grateful to share a message from Chris Klein — author, thought leader, trailblazer, and valued member of the ImpAACt Voices team. Chris is widely recognized for his leadership and for encouraging others to use their voices with confidence.

He reminds us that communication is everything and invites us to reflect on a powerful question:

“How much is your voice worth?”

Today, we’re grateful to share a Giving Tuesday reflection from Lance McLemore, a respected thought leader and a core part of our ImpAACt Voices community. Lance leads, presents, and brings powerful insight into professional spaces around the world.

Lance recently presented at the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Convention, where he reflected on what it meant to reconnect with friends who are part of our wider AAC community. His words remind us why this work matters: creating spaces where people feel connected, supported, and empowered to lead.

Here is a moment he shared:

“It was a very nice reunion. There was plenty of good food, lively conversation, and laughter. It’s a rare opportunity to be among friends, one that I always relish.”
— Lance McLemore

Hear From Alma This Giving Tuesday.

Today, we’re grateful to spotlight Alma Silver, a leader whose powerful vision continues to shape and strengthen our community.

Here’s what she shared:

“Over this past year, I have enjoyed becoming more involved in the AAC community by volunteering with ImpAACt Voices and attending the Closing The Gap conference.

I believe the world will change for the better once all AAC users are empowered to amplify their voices, speak their truth, and proudly claim leadership roles in every space they enter. I am excited to continue partnering with ImpAACt Voices and doing my part to help drive that change forward.”

Alma’s message reflects what ImpAACt Voices has built, and continues to strengthen with your support: community connection, leadership development, and spaces where AAC users feel valued and empowered.

Our Giving Tuesday goal is $5,000 to support our 2026 AAC user-led programs, including the Monthly Hangout, Chat & Check-In Hangout, Happy Hour Hangout, the Star-Guest Speaker Series, and our new Family & Caregiver Series.

Your support helps keep these free and accessible AAC user-led spaces open for our community.
