📸 Sandra Tyler has been horse-crazy her whole life. She and her horse, Shiloh Moonchild, love to ride and explore together every chance they get.

🐎 Shiloh is a grade dun roan that Sandra purchased as a 3-year-old, and she turned 6 this January. Having been involved in many volunteer organizations throughout her life, Sandra jumped at the chance to join MSAR, which perfectly combines her love of helping people in distress with her lifelong passion for horses.

📸 Rider Spotlight: Jade Teal has eight years of experience in first responder roles, including service as an EMT and volunteer firefighter. She has 20 years of riding experience (mostly trails over various terrain) and is excited to have a way to combine two of her passions: horses and serving her community.

🐎 Her Horses:
Indy (grey) is a 9 year old mare that has been with Jade for just under a year. She has given her all to Jade, and with her boundless energy and trustworthiness is quickly proving herself.

Octavia (red) is a 15 year old mare who has been with Jade for several years. She adapts well to new challenges and is steady under saddle. Fun fact: she has been a paid actor.

We’re not just looking at phones, we’re also looking at GPS units. One of our recent new members, Amber, organized a search pattern and GPS training for MSAR members by setting out clues for us to locate at Rabbit Mountain Open Space. Though we do use the SarTopo App on our phones during searches we also use GPS units as backup. Chilly but wonderful day of learning. Thank you Amber!

In search and rescue, horses carry us farther than boots ever could. A partnership of power and precision. Capable of covering miles of rugged terrain, staying calm in chaos, horses give teams the advantage of height, endurance, and a wider field of view, as they move quietly through the forests and mountains, conserving human energy, helping us notice things that might otherwise be missed on foot.

When lives are one the line, horses help us find the way home.
