Association for Community Living (ACL) The ACL, The Arc of Boulder & Broomfield, advocates with people with IDD through individual, group, systems & community advocacy.

We help individuals navigate systems & barriers to build inclusive communities where people with IDD are valued & welcomed. The ACL, in partnership with the state and national Arc federation, exists to ensure these rights are protected by providing advocacy, support and educational services to people with intellectual/ developmental disabilities (I/DD), their families and the community that promote independence, health, safety, and full community participation.

ACTION ALERT: Tell Congress to Protect Medicaid and SNAP!

Medicaid and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) are lifelines for millions of people with disabilities and their families. These programs help people access health care, put food on the table, and receive the supports they need to live, work, and thrive in their communities.

But recent changes to these programs are creating new challenges. Funding cuts, paperwork delays, and confusing requirements are putting access to essential benefits at risk, even for people who qualify.

Your voice matters, and now is the time to use it!

The Arc Pikes Peak Region encourages our community to speak up and make sure Congress understands how important Medicaid and SNAP are to people with disabilities and their families.

Take action today! Visit The Arc of the United States' Action Center to contact your members of Congress and share why protecting access to these programs matters: https://act.thearc.org/home/?_gl=1*mubreu*_gcl_aw*R0NMLjE3OTEzOTM4NzUuQ2p3S0NBancyNWZXQmhBVkVpd0FNb3BOanM4bGZ6a253NXZmMDF1UVpnWjJFbm1MYnpkc2RldFlLOFFBRnl2ZkpZVVdVOEZtVGNnN2F4b0NLeE1RQXZEX0J3RQ..*_gcl_au*MTY3MDYzODgzMi4xNzkxMzkzODY4*_ga*MTE3NDU2MDc5LjE3NTEyOTc2OTA.*_ga_TTHG7VXBGP*czE3OTE0ODA1NjkkbzEzJGcwJHQxNzkxNDgwNTY5JGo2MCRsMCRoMA..

Together, we can make sure the voices of people with disabilities and their families are heard.

Did you know that most IHEs across Colorado already have open applications for the 2027-2028 school year? If you know a student who is interested in applying, be sure to read IN's application blog (https://bit.ly/3VsD5Ty) to stay up-to-date with all the details.

We love that there are 8 inclusive higher education programs for students to choose from across the state. Which one is the best for you/your student?

Last Thursday, ACL’s Caitlin Looney had the opportunity to present “Allyship in Action: How to Support Self-Advocacy Without Taking Over” to the Colorado Association of Nurses for the Developmentally Disabled (CANDD)!

The presentation explored how professionals can support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) to exercise their own voice, choices, and self-determination—while resisting the urge to step in and take over.

As always, the nurses brought curiosity, engagement, thoughtful questions, and open hearts to the conversation. 💙

Thank you to these dedicated professionals—and to CANDD for inviting ACL back again this year! We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn together and keep building stronger allyship with people with IDD.
