Take a look back at last year’s Luminary Gala, where we celebrated AAPI leadership, community, and the people helping move New Jersey forward. We were honored to hear from our 2025 Luminary Award Honorees, Helen Zia, Senator Vin Gopal, and Dr. Sujana Chandrasekhar, and celebrate their contributions to our communities.

Since then, we’ve continued to organize, advocate, educate, and build alongside AAPI communities across New Jersey. This year’s theme, Bloom Here. Belong Here., reflects both how far we’ve come and our vision for the future we’re building together.

This past weekend, our Teach Asian American Stories (TAAS) team joined the New Jersey Chinese Teachers Association/ 新泽西州中文教师学会 for its annual conference to kick off the upcoming school year!

Our Co-Executive Director, Roslyne Shiao, joined Tracy Hong Syz, a Mandarin teacher at International High School in Paterson, and community advocate Jack Vitayanon to present “Authentic Chinese Learning Through AAPI Programs and Community Engagement.” Together, they highlighted how AAPI programs and community partnerships can strengthen language learning by connecting it to culture, history, and students’ lived experiences.

Thank you to NJCTA for welcoming us and giving us the opportunity to connect with Chinese language educators from across the state.

And no, you don’t have to be an “Asian aunty.” All are welcome!

For 2026–27, we’re bringing you four ways to get involved: Immigrant Justice, Democracy, Education, and Drumming Corps. Pick a cause(or two), learn the tools, and take action with your community!

UPDATE: Kuya Raul was transferred to a facility Adam’s County Correctional Center, which is 1,325 miles away from his family, community and legal team over the weekend. We are trying to support a flight to MI for his family but also the potential need to drive.

This facility is actually one of the largest in the country, run by core civic. Earlier this year, there was reports of poor medical care and a gas leak that made the people inside sick.

We all have a choice: to stay silent, or to stand up. Our communities are connected, and that means we all have a role to play in standing up for one another.

There are many ways to take action, and it doesn’t have to look the same for everyone. You can support Kuya Raul’s family as they fight to be reunited, join our Asian Aunty Brigade, or show up in person, here in NJ, to stand in solidarity with folks like Shaira.

None of us can do all this work alone, but every one of us can do something. And when we come together, we remind the most vulnerable among us that they are not alone.

At our Asian American Leadership Summit, Jamie Ding shared why he remains optimistic.

Reflecting on his Jeopardy! experience and the comments that followed, Jamie connected it to something bigger: despite the noise and division around us, people are still connecting, sharing, and learning from one another. And that gives him hope.

Jamie Ding shared how his parents’ story shaped his belief that we should stand up against tyranny.

You don’t have to be on the Jeopardy! stage or in a courtroom to make your voice heard. We all have opportunities to speak up in our own communities. You just have to find your voice and use it.

Youth at our Asian American Leadership Summit remind us that leadership isn’t about having a title or power. It’s about recognizing your responsibility to others and to your community, and choosing to use your voice and your actions to make a positive difference.
