One of the greatest feelings in the world is knowing that we as individuals can make a difference. Ending hunger in America is a goal that is literally within our grasp.” Jeff Bridges – National Spokesperson for the No Kid Hungry Campaign
We are excited to officially open the first Little Free Pantry in Littleton here on the grounds of Doctors Care. Dr. Gary VanderArk founded Doctor’s Care in 198

8. With the Mission “to provide access to quality, affordable health care and services designed to reduce barriers to health for low-income people in need.”
Our student volunteers from Heritage High School also share the same values as Doctors Care: To show compassion, inclusiveness, collaboration and respect. A few months ago Littleton Doctors Care CEO Bebe Kleinman met with us and embraced the idea of The Little Free Pantry with open arms and a contagious enthusiasm. In her thirty plus years working in the nonprofit sector, serving the needs of low income children and families she knows firsthand the difference this Little Free Pantry will make in the lives of the people and families living in this community. High School life can be a busy time for these kids. However they are committed and excited to be making a difference in the community in which they live. Our hope is to inspire through action and that these young volunteers will grow to be citizens of the world starting here in their own backyard by expanding their passion, and taking action, no matter how big or small the dream. So what started as a small conversation “hey, what do you think about building a Little Free Pantry with our kids?” has finally come to fruition. With encouragement from Bebe, here at Doctors Care, support and muscle power from our husbands, from the late night emails and phone calls, all the brainstorming, all the meetings and the planning. Thinking of ways our children could give back to OUR community, we thought we would just install a pantry where people could take food when they needed it. Bebe asked us the hard questions and made us realize that so much more had to go into this project and for her guidance we are thankful. So here we are, celebrating this first step with all of you. We believe this Little Free Pantry will be the start of something wonderful in our community. And the reward will be greater than any of us could have ever imagined. We are humbled by your support for us and for the Littleton Community. Share your passion. Be inspired to do more.

We know what shows up at our Food Shares can feel a little unpredictable sometimes. 💚

The truth is, a lot of the food we share depends on what is donated to us through our food rescue network, local partners, farms, and our regional food bank. We don’t always get to choose what’s available.

But when we do have funding to purchase food, we let YOU help guide those decisions.

That’s why we ask a few simple questions during check-in:
• First name
• ZIP code
• Phone number (only so we can reach you if there’s ever a food recall or important food safety notice)
• Household size
• Number of adults
• Number of children

And one of the most important questions:

“If funding was available, what types of food would you like to see us offer?”

Your answers help us understand what our community actually needs and wants. Whether it’s culturally familiar foods, more fresh produce, protein, dairy, pantry staples, or something else entirely, your feedback helps shape our purchasing decisions.

We also want to be clear about a few things:

💚 We do not share your information.
💚 No ID is required.
💚 There is no public charge.
💚 We ask only for the information needed to better serve our community and to contact you in the event of a food recall or food safety concern.

Those surveys aren’t just paperwork. They help us understand who we’re serving, what foods are needed, and what we should prioritize when funding becomes available.

So thank you for taking a few moments to answer those questions. We really do read them, track them, and use them to make decisions whenever funding allows.

Community-driven food access starts with listening. 🌱
