For many adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, home is still their family home.

Nationally, 63% of people with IDD who receive long-term supports and services live with family members, while only 10% live in a home of their own. And across the country, nearly one million households include a person with I/DD living with a caregiver over the age of 60.

Those numbers are a big part of why housing is at the heart of the future we’re building at Tall Tales Ranch.

Parents and family members have spent decades providing care, support, transportation, advocacy, and so much more. But as those caregivers age, families are left with a question that can be incredibly difficult to answer: What happens next?

Our future residential community at Tall Tales Ranch will include 28 affordable apartments designed to give adults with I/DD another option. A place where they can have a home of their own while still being part of a connected community, with opportunities for employment, life skills, social connection, and greater independence right outside their door.

There simply aren’t enough housing options for adults with I/DD. We’re working to help change that.

Meet Sammi Somers, one of the many people who makes the Tall Tales Ranch community so special. Sammi wears a lot of hats at TTR. She is a Tall Tales Ranch Ambassador, serves on both our Young Professional Board and Executive Board, and is the manager at Shirt Off My Back in Littleton.

Through each of these roles, Sammi brings her perspective, ideas, and voice to our organization, and we are grateful to have her helping shape the future of Tall Tales Ranch.

We had a productive day at Project Our Town yesterday, packing over 1,500 pounds of bean soup for food shelves across the metro area. A great day for vocational training and new skills learned while helping the community.

Tall Tales Coffee Company: 2026 So Far ☕

It’s been a great year for our coffee crew, and we’re only getting started.

☕ 22 employees with I/DD gaining meaningful, paid work experience
☕ 4 employees independently operating the espresso machine, a major milestone in building technical skills and workplace independence
☕ Thousands of cups of coffee served at businesses, events, fundraisers, and gatherings across the Denver metro area
☕ New 4 oz. and 12 oz. bags of Tall Tales Coffee, creating even more ways to support the program
☕ Continued opportunities across a variety of roles, including administrative work, order fulfillment, coffee trailer shifts, and catering events.

Tall Tales Coffee Company is about more than serving a great cup of coffee. Every shift creates opportunities to learn new skills, earn a paycheck, build confidence, and grow in the workplace.

And there’s still plenty of 2026 left.

We were so grateful to be the beneficiaries of the first-ever OuterKindness Concert fundraiser at Lost Lake Lounge, and what a night it was!

The event raised just over $25,000 for Tall Tales Ranch, all while giving us one of the most fun nights of the year. Fun and fundraising? We’ll take that combination any day.

And one of our favorite moments of the night came when our very own ambassador, Peter, took the stage to sing his favorite song, “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys.

A huge thank you to OuterKind and everyone who came out, sang along, and helped make the first OuterKindness Concert such a success. We’re incredibly grateful to have been part of it!
