We're proud to recognize Leatrice Russ-Glenns as one of our Humanities Stars and a dedicated leader committed to strengthening communities across Arkansas. 🌟
Leatrice serves as the Executive Director of the Carnell Russ Foundation (CRF), whose mission is "Moving Communities Forward in Unity.” Through the CRF Scholarship Fund, graduating seniors throughout Southeast Arkansas receive book scholarships and are honored each year during the Annual Mayfest Scholarship Recognition Event, celebrating their accomplishments.
Under her leadership, CRF established the Carnell Russ Vision Center in Star City, Arkansas, where dreams become realities and all things Community! In summer 2025, the Vision Center launched its first 6-week Summer Youth Empowerment Camp, creating opportunities for young people to learn, grow, and succeed.
A graduate of Grady High School, Leatrice holds a BA in Psychology, an MA in Human Resource Development, and an MA in Rehabilitation Counseling. Her distinguished career includes service as a Telecommunications Specialist with Southwestern Bell until her retirement in 2003 and as a Professor at Philander Smith College until her retirement in 2021. She also serves as the volunteer director of Biblical Counseling & Support at Longley Baptist Church, continuing her lifelong commitment to helping others.
When she's not serving her community, Leatrice enjoys playing bid whiz and dominoes, traveling, and spending time gardening.
