The HumanitiesAR Board of Directors is strengthened by members whose careers and curiosity reflect the many paths to the humanities. One of those humanities stars is Catherine Wallack, who has served on our Board since 2023.

With degrees in architecture, art history, and design from Rice University and Harvard University, Catherine began her career in architecture before discovering a passion for archival research. This interest was sparked while curating an exhibition on Edward Durell Stone’s Fulbright Furniture, supported by a HumanitiesAR grant. That project helped launch the next chapter of her career.

Today, Catherine serves as Architectural Records Archivist for Special Collections at the University of Arkansas, where she works with collections, researchers, and exhibits that uncover powerful stories from Arkansas’s past.

Catherine shares: “I had lived in Arkansas for a long time before I started working in Special Collections and thought I knew something about the state. Having routine hands-on experience with these materials is a privilege in so many ways. It reveals aspects of the state’s history that are new to me on a regular basis.”

We’re grateful for both Catherine's expertise, curiosity, and dedication, and for the leadership of our entire Board whose collective knowledge, service, and passion help preserve, share, and celebrate Arkansas stories.

🎤 Stephen Koch, creator and host of Arkansongs, will explore the roots of rock in America and the important role Arkansans have played in shaping the genre.

🎶 The night will also feature a live performance by deFrance, an Arkansas-based rock band, bringing the history to life through music reflective of Koch’s presentation.
