💜The Quapaw Quarter Association is excited to share another video as a part of our student partnership with University of Central Arkansas marketing students.

🏠The Hornibrook House is described as Arkansas’ best example of Queen Anne architecture. The Mansion took seven years to build and was finished in 1888, using only Arkansas materials. The mansion was home to The Arkansas Women’s College from 1897-1900. From a nursing home to a boarding house and vacancy, the home kept a large portion of its original materials and finishings, but there were odd additions and changes to the original floor plan. Robert Blair and Sharon Welch-Blair purchased the property in December of 1993 and began a meticulous restoration that led to the opening of the majestic Empress of Little Rock Bed and Breakfast in 1995. The new stewards of this impressive example of Queen Anne architecture are Ben Bledsoe and James Lucas. Their dedication to preserving the beauty of The Empress and ensuring it stays open for visitors has paid off, as they have just been awarded two Michelin Keys!

🗺The Quapaw Quarter of Little Rock is a section of the city including its oldest and most historic business and residential neighborhoods. The area's name was first given in 1961, after the Quapaw Nation, who lived in much of what is now known as Arkansas until they were forced from their land through the Indian Removal Act and other treaties in the 1820s and ‘30s.

🏘As many as fifteen separate National Historic Register Districts make up the Quapaw Quarter, including more than 200 separate homes and buildings on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the QQA serves 28 historic districts across Little Rock and North Little Rock.

When we say, "you don't want to miss this," we really mean it. Empowering communities within historic districts is vital to the success of these older neighborhoods. The people who made it what it is - and those there now, are uplifting the heritage of our past every day.

Dotted with homes dating to the 1890s, the Paul Laurence Dunbar School Neighborhood Historic District in downtown Little Rock has been described by the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program as “reflecting the varied architectural styles prevalent during the late-nineteenth and early-to-mid-twentieth centuries, exhibiting a broad mix of influences and architectural variants popular during the period.” The district is nestled between the Governor’s Mansion Historic District to the east and the Central High School Neighborhood Historic District to the west.

Come out to this free event and learn a thing or two!

This past weekend, the QQA pulled some volunteers together and supported Keep Little Rock Beautiful with a litter pick-up! Keep an eye out for the next one we plan - coming to a neighborhood near you!

Had a blast creating walkable sidewalks, collecting recycling ♻️ & picking up litter 🗑️ with these champions today!! Here’s hoping your next stroll down to the Capitol building will be more harmonious. 🙌

💜The Quapaw Quarter Association is pleased to announce a student partnership with University of Central Arkansas marketing students. QQA Board member and Development Chair, Benjamin Britton, worked with his students in the spring semester to create videos highlighting the beautiful homes in the Quapaw Quarter. We plan to expand this project into additional historic districts and neighborhoods.

🏠The Keith House, located at 2200 Broadway in Little Rock, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It is a two-story brick structure, three bays wide, with a side-gable roof. A single-story gabled porch projects from the center of the main facade, supported by brick piers, with exposed rafter ends and large Craftsman brackets. The house was designed by noted Arkansas architect Charles L. Thompson and built in 1912. It is a particularly well-executed combination of Craftsman and Prairie School features.
