A busy day at the refuge today. Royalton 4th graders along with teachers and chaperones made a field trip to the refuge. The students rotated through 5 learning sessions that taught them about aquatic insects, pollinators, animals in the area, how to be nature detectives, and using binoculars to identify local birds. Despite the strong winds, the sessions went well and students had a good time.

The friends of Crane Meadows just finished their board meeting. We learned something new. Did you know from the spotting scope you can see four separate nests? There are two Eagle nests , a great horned owl nest, and an osprey nest. We will plan to put some type of signage with arrows pointing at the different nest in the near future!

My first time seeing the spotting scope in place! Just so folks know, this is most of the way down the driveway towards the Sedge Meadows Classroom and office for the national wildlife refuge. It is not located by the parking lot on Iris Road.

The spotting scope is mounted. Come out to the Refuge and see an eaglet in the nest!
