Ansel is a three-year-old neutered boy with a heart as big as his love for his people. Affectionate, cuddly, and endlessly devoted, he’s a true “velcro dog” who wants to be right by your side. Sit down for a moment and you’ll likely find Ansel at your feet, tucked under your chair, or curled up next to you on the couch—his head resting in your lap, gazing up at you like you’re his whole world.
He is fully house-trained and continuing to make great progress with crate training. While he can be a little unsure about entering the crate at first, once he’s inside he settles nicely. Ansel thrives with patience, positive reinforcement, and gentle encouragement, especially when he’s allowed to make choices at his own pace. He’s a smart boy who already knows sit, down, focus, kennel up, and his name, and he’s eager to keep learning and building confidence through training.
On leash, Ansel does best using a gentle leader. He’s strong and sometimes forgets just how big he is, but with consistency and guidance, his manners continue to improve. A securely fenced yard where he can stretch his legs, run, and play would be a dream come true for him.
Ansel is deeply people-centered, sweet, and tolerant. He does experience moderate separation anxiety, which shows more as stress and panting rather than destructive behavior, and he does eventually settle. He will do best with an adopter who understands anxious dogs and is willing to continue helping him build confidence and feel secure.
He has lived successfully with another large, calm male dog and may enjoy the companionship of the right canine friend. Because Ansel can struggle with boundaries and may not always read corrections from other dogs, a dog-savvy home and thoughtful introductions are important. He cannot live with cats, and caution is recommended around small animals.
Ansel adores snuggling, napping, mealtime, learning new things, and playing chase. He can be toy-motivated, though some early signs of toy guarding mean this should be managed with structure and continued training. He redirects well and responds happily when called.
At the end of the day, Ansel is a big, burly goof who has no idea how large he is—just how much he loves. Loyal, gentle, and deeply bonded to his humans, he’s looking for an experienced, patient home that can offer both loving structure and affection. In the right home, Ansel will be an incredibly devoted companion and a truly rewarding addition to the family. 💙
