Why should distance determine who deserves our compassion?
The people and animals we work with in Myanmar are thousands of miles away. For many, it is a country that feels very far from our daily lives.
But distance doesn’t make their struggles matter less.
Every day, our veterinarians, street feeders and communities are working to create a better future for thousands of free-roaming dogs. And the animals are often living with the consequences of what we as humans do, and what we fail to do.
So what can we do from here?

Rabies prevention at its best in Myanmar!

Our teams in Mandalay and Yangon vaccinated a whopping 460 dogs and cats in ONE day for World Rabies Day! 🐾

These photos show the people and animals behind that number: community members bringing animals they care about, and local veterinary teams making sure they receive protection against rabies.

This World Rabies Day, our teams in Yangon and Mandalay vaccinated 460 dogs and cats in just 24 hours.
That number represents much more than vaccines. Every clinic gives our teams the chance to protect animals, help families keep the animals they love safe, and share practical information about rabies prevention with communities.
For many of us, rabies rarely crosses our minds. In Myanmar, families still face the threat it poses to both animals and people. That is why vaccination, education, and community engagement remain central to our work.
When we look at the animals and people who came through our clinics, we see communities taking action to protect one another. We see the impact that local teams, committed partners, and sustained support can create.
This recognition from GARC could help us continue and expand that work.

It’s Kinda Chic to Celebrate World Rabies Day on September 28th

Every year, thousands of free-roaming dogs—and the children who live alongside them—succumb to rabies, a deadly but preventable disease. In Myanmar, millions of dogs have little or no access to veterinary care.

At Let’s Save The Strays International, we believe humane care and vaccination are the answer.

It’s kinda chic to work exclusively with Burmese veterinary teams and invest in lasting, locally led change.

It’s kinda chic to spay, neuter, and vaccinate nearly 600 free-roaming dogs every month.

It’s kinda chic to educate hundreds of at-risk children each month—teaching them how to avoid bites, treat free-roaming dogs with kindness, and understand why vaccination matters.
