Welcome to LYWA, offering you the Buddhist teachings of Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche Since then, their teachings have been recorded and transcribed.

Lama Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche began teaching at Kopan Monastery, Nepal, in 1970. At present we have more than 10,000 hours of digital audio and some 60,000 pages of raw transcript. Many recordings, mostly teachings by Lama Zopa Rinpoche, remain to be transcribed, and as Rinpoche continues to teach, the number of recordings in the Archive increases accordingly. Most of our transcripts have been neither checked nor edited. Here at the LYWA we are making every effort to organize the transcription of that which has not yet been transcribed, to edit that which has not yet been edited, and generally do the many other tasks detailed below. The Lama Yeshe Wisdom Archive is an affiliate of the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition. (Please note that LYWA is a separate organization, with its own programs and finances.) LYWA is a 501(c)(3) tax-deductible, non-profit corporation dedicated to the welfare of all sentient beings and totally dependent upon your donations for our continued existence.

The meaning of the mantra: You, Vajrasattva, have generated the holy mind (bodhicitta) according to your pledge (samaya). Your holy mind is enriched with the simultaneous holy actions of releasing transmigratory beings from samsara (the circling, suffering aggregates). Whatever happens in my life-happiness or suffering, good or bad-with a pleased, holy mind, never give up but please guide me. Please stabilize all happiness, including the happiness of the upper realms, actualize all actions and sublime and common realizations, and please make the glory of the five wisdoms abide in my heart.

Out of his great compassion, Lama Zopa Rinpoche has composed this short Vajrasattva practice and requested that it be published as a LYWA free book in a pocket-sized format that is easy for you to carry round and have available at all times. Thus, we can all be like the great Atisha - whenever we notice we have broken a vow or created any other kind of negative karma, we can whip out our little Vajrasattva book and purify that negativity with the four opponent powers without a second’s delay!

My dear venerable, courageous, brave warriors,
Like the worldly Olympic champions, you are all like warriors against the enemy: delusion, which has made all sentient beings suffer in the oceans of samsara numberless times in the past, including the sufferings of the hell beings, intermediate state beings, and pretas—all the sufferings. Not only is oneself suffering, also numberless sentient beings are suffering, endlessly.

The rest of the world's champions are not champions, just silly and childish, but you, the Sangha, are the real champions, the best champions, because to defeat and control delusions is the most difficult thing. You're doing that; you are the best champions.

Even though it is the most difficult thing, it is the most important thing in life to defeat delusions, to extinguish them completely, so there is no trace. Therefore, what you are doing is so special, because by ceasing delusions completely, only then are you free from all the sufferings forever.

Then, also, you can liberate all the other sentient beings, who are numberless, from the oceans of samsara’s suffering. The most enjoyable, exciting thing is that you can liberate others. Even to liberate one sentient being is the most exciting thing.
