I was one of the commenters on the original post. If the Barnabus Community is closed please be curtious and not dump items outside their building. You may have right intentions, but also along with their reasons, here is a couple others: Wildlife will get in there and do what wildlife do, it can be destructive. People will be people and dig through everything leaving an unsightly mess for someone else to deal with. These volunteers work hard and unselfishly to provide a vital service. Cleaning up someone else's mess is unfair and rude.
If you have stuff to donate and Barnabus is closed please consider bringing your donations to Bill's Locker On Lenox Avenue at 4115 Lenox Avenue and leave them by the porch. You can donate anytime and we will make sure it gets distributed for free to those who need it just the same as the wonderful people at the Barnabus Community do.
Thank you all for your support in helping those in need in our community.
This donation was left last night. After it was left, several people rifled through it. I posted this photo this morning and explained that this makes more work for our staff and that the donations need to be discarded. The reason is, if they get wet, mold and mildew can form. If there are bugs (note the open cereal), we do not want them in the building.
I deleted that post because some people made some very hateful, judgmental and hurtful comments about our guests and our decisions. Some made useful suggestions, but instead of picking and choosing comments to delete, I just decided to remove all of them. This post is now closed to comments.
I simply posted this as a reminder to not leave donations outside our building when we are closed. We are open daytime hours, evening hours and weekend hours. It is our goal to be able to work with our donors to find a time and method to drop them off conveniently. Thank you!
