Thank you to U-Stop Shops and everyone who filled up with U-Stop's Kick-It-Back program in September to support Eventide Meals on Wheels! ⛽

With each meal costing $8.75, the $6,652.58 raised can help provide more than 760 meals to local seniors! 🍽️

We recently had the privilege of honoring Lynn “Hollywood” Beason for his military service with a Veteran's Pinning Ceremony.

As a United States Army combat engineer during the Vietnam War, Lynn played an important role in serving and protecting our nation. During the ceremony, he was pinned by Miranda Palmer, Eventide Hospice RNCM, alongside VFW 10725 Commander Larry Cushing and VFW Quartermaster Dave Dietze.

Please join us in thanking Lynn for his service, sacrifice, and commitment to our country.🫡❤️🤍💙

Members of Eventide Hospice, VA staff, family and friends gathered to honor Dean Rosberg with a Veteran Pinning Ceremony and Quilt of Valor presentation recently!

Dean proudly served in the U.S. Navy for six years, following a family tradition of service alongside his brothers. As the last surviving brother, his memories and military memorabilia tell a remarkable story of dedication and sacrifice.

One special moment brought plenty of smiles when Dean tried his sailor's hat on, joking that it had somehow become a little too small over the years! Receiving his Pin and Quilt of Valor were deeply meaningful to Dean, and his gratitude was evident throughout the day.

Thank you, Dean, for your service to our country and for allowing us to honor your legacy. 🇺🇸⚓️❤️

Eventide Health Tip: Harnessing Your Health Literacy

Besides attending annual doctor’s appointments and getting a flu shot every fall, what else can you do to prioritize your overall health & well-being? Strengthen your health literacy!

Health literacy is a two-sided concept. While organizations like hospitals and clinics have regulations and policies, you are never required to learn the details of the medical world and its seemingly never-ending jargon. This is why health literacy is so important; by neglecting it, a simple diagnosis can feel like a medical labyrinth to navigate.

How does it impact my future? Much like a well-oiled machine, keeping up on your body’s maintenance should keep it running longer—and hopefully in better shape, too. Low health literacy can raise major roadblocks on the highway of life, such as feeling less confident reporting your symptoms, overwhelmed when dealing with a chronic illness and confused when asked to recall family medical history. It could even cause you to make serious errors when taking your medications.

Bettering your health knowledge can decrease unneeded emergency room visits, improve your satisfaction with your doctor and medical team, and even improve overall health outcomes.

So, where to begin? Try these tips:
• Ask questions. Consult your doctor! What’s scary to you may be standard to them. Don’t be afraid to ask for a second opinion when you’re feeling uncertain or uncomfortable.

• Utilize online patient portals. These are incredibly useful to dig into and truly understand your conditions or care plan—and you can read through them at your own pace, and whenever you please. Have a question about your care? Some portals allow for encrypted messaging right to your medical provider.

• Research (with caution). Misinformation is common on the internet. While Google and WebMD can be helpful, your doctor’s word should take precedence.

• Plan for your future. Setting up an advance directive or discussing future wishes with your family allows you to make informed health decisions in the case of a hindering injury or crisis.
