September was a great month for hosting volunteers and prepping our sites for season end! 🍁

Thank you to the six incredible Union Adventist University students who helped our Community Garden at 17th & F for their Annual ‘Project Impact.” Our team helped spread compost over two raised beds to improve the soil for next year’s growers, trim up pathways, and remove a whole truckload of plant waste from the site.

Thank you for being troopers and working hard on a hot day!

Then, the afternoon sessions will focus on agricultural conservation, and what Community Crops and our farmers are doing to protect and preserve our land and natural resources. See conservation practices in action, and learn more about NRCS programs that can support farmers and urban growers along the way.

Shout out to Goldenrod Printing & Mail, LLC for donating custom name signs to our Community Gardeners for years! 🌻 These signs help visitors see that every plot belongs to a local family, keeping our gardens safe and respected all season. Thank you for your continued support! 🙌

Last week, hundreds of caring community members for Day of Caring presented by Black Hills Energy. Twenty-three people divided in small groups tackled projects at our:

🌱 FiftyOne Commons Community Garden
🍅 Peter Pan Park Garden
🥬 Southern Heights Food Forest and Community Garden
🌳 Prairie Pines Aspegren Food Forest

Thank you to everyone who joined in to strengthen our local food system in Lincoln and Lancaster County! The amount of work we completed in five hours that day, saves our small team at least two weeks in time and labor! We are beyond grateful for your service!

Growing today to protect tomorrow’s harvest! 🌱

Our summer cover crops are thriving this year. Sunflowers, Sudan grass, millet, buckwheat, cowpeas, and more are protecting the soil, reducing weeds, conserving moisture, and returning nutrients to the land.

Every cover crop we plant is an investment in healthier soil, stronger farms, and a more sustainable future for the farmers we serve.
