American Children's Home

American Children's Home American Children's Home's mission is to provide a safe and loving home for children when their own homes are no longer safe and loving.

Our History
American Children's Home opened in 1928 by the Junior Order United American Mechanics North Carolina State Council, our country's oldest patriotic fraternity. The Home initially served orphaned children of Junior Order members. However, as time passed there were fewer and fewer true orphans and we began accepting children through county Departments of Social Services. These children, w

ho have suffered abuse, neglect and/or abandonment, have been removed from their homes by court order and need a caring, nurturing environment to help them deal with past experiences and prepare them for their future. Helping Children
Sometimes, for their own safety, children cannot live with their parents. We give children who have experienced abuse, neglect or abandonment a safe and loving home in which to heal their broken spirits. Performance Quality Improvement
The Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) Committee meets quarterly to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of all programs and services of the American Children's Home and correct deficiencies through the PQI process. The committee membership is composed of all program areas from the American Children's Home (campus, financial development, daycare, school, board members and other community stakeholders). At each meeting members involved in human resources, operations, risk management and financial resources present written reports. Corrective Actions are put in place if needed. Members of this committee are also responsible for distributing seven different surveys, analyzing data gathered from the surveys and determining actions to make needed improvements. The minutes of each meeting are given to members of the PQI Committee, all staff, ACH Board Members and are available during the office hours in the front office of the Administrative Building. The committee works diligently as it strives to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our children.

Little wings, big wonder. 🦋

Our daycare kids got to watch these caterpillars grow and change, and this week they finally became butterflies and flew away.

It was such a sweet little moment in the garden and a fun reminder of how much there is to learn from nature. 💚

Yesterday was a special afternoon at American Children’s Home as Bethany Church, one of our Friends in Faith members, held the first Sunday afternoon church service in our chapel. 💙

We are so thankful for their willingness to come alongside us and help create a time of worship, encouragement, and connection for our children, staff, and their congregation.

Through our Friends in Faith program, we are opening our chapel one Sunday afternoon each month for partner churches to hold a service that our children and staff can attend, along with members of their church family. It is a beautiful way to share faith, fellowship, and community right here on our campus.

Thank you, Bethany Church, for helping us begin this new opportunity with such a warm and uplifting service.

If your church would like to learn more about becoming part of Friends in Faith, please visit our website at ach-nc.org or send us a message. We would love to connect with you!

Throwback Thursday 🏊☀️

Check out these old photos! Years ago our pool was even bigger than the one we have now, it was massive! These are such a fun reminder that summer swimming has long been a favorite at American Children’s Home.

From then to now, the pool may have changed but one thing has always stayed the same, our kids love pool days. Sunshine, splashing, laughter, and time spent making summer memories with friends never go out of style. 💙

P.S. As we kick off more summer fun, we’d be so grateful for donations of sunscreen, towels, floats, life jackets, and pool chairs to help us keep our kids stocked for a fun summer by the pool.

As the school year comes to a close, we want to take a moment to celebrate all of our students for their hard work, growth, and accomplishments this year.

We are especially proud to recognize our seven graduates! 🎓 This milestone represents so much more than the end of a school year. It reflects the dedication, courage, and determination they have shown every step of the way.

To the graduates who have already walked across the stage, and to those who will take that walk tonight, we hope you feel the pride, love, and support surrounding you. You have worked hard for this moment, and we are so excited to celebrate this milestone with you.

To all of our students, congratulations on a great year. We are so proud of you and excited for all that is ahead.

Now let's enjoy some sunshine, pool days, and summer fun! ☀️

Thank you to the Harris/Watkins Community Group of Mercy Hill Church for showing love and appreciation to our foster families during National Foster Care Month.

Your thoughtful gift baskets are such a kind way to encourage those who selflessly open their homes and provide love, stability, and care when children need it most. We are so grateful for your support!

Calling all businesses, big and small!

American Children’s Home is looking for sponsors for our 28th Annual Show-Off on Saturday, August 22, 2026. This event brings together cool cars, local vendors, families, and the entire community for a fun day on our campus — all while directly supporting the children we serve.

Sponsorship is a great way to promote your business, show your community support, and be part of one of our favorite annual traditions. Whether you are a local small business, a church, a civic group, or a larger company looking to give back, we would love to have you involved.

Interested in becoming a sponsor? We have too many options to list, so if you don't see a sponsorship package that matches what you're able to do, let us know! We are happy to work with you and create something custom.
