October is American Pharmacists Month, and Rho Chi Alpha Xi Chapter is so proud to be sending 8 of our members this month to the Fayette County Health Department to help with pharmacist-initiated naloxone distribution and education as part of our annual chapter project. Opioid overdose doesn't recognize socioeconomic barriers and affects people from all walks of life for different reasons. We are looking forward to getting to take the pharmacy from out behind the counter and go out into the community to help give people a tool to potentially SAVE A LIFE. Pharmacists do so much more than just prepare medications. As of March 2015, pharmacists have been able to initiate the dispensing of naloxone (the antidote for opioid narcotics) per protocol in Kentucky without a physician present to the write the script. We are proud to be the medication experts in the healthcare field, and believe it is our responsibility to live up to this expectation by engaging in activities such as these. Know your Pharmacist.
