So proud of our fellow FCEA member Benjamin D. McWhorter for sharing his passion for music with his students at TCE! 🎶

Mr. McWhorter introduced our 4th grade students to a variety of musical instruments today! 🎺🎻🥁

Students will have the opportunity to sign up for music lessons that will continue throughout the school year. We can’t wait to see our students discover new talents and develop their love of music! 🎵

FCEA President Erika Edwards Pennington delivered her remarks to the FCPS School Board in regard to fully staffing and funding our school system. This type of advocacy on behalf of our teacher union is commendable and a true representation of the type of leadership she exemplifies on the daily. We are immensely proud of her for her commitment to ensuring we all are moving forward in a successful school system!

Her statement from tonight’s meeting is noted below:

“As president of the Fayette County Education Association, taxpayer, and mother of a future FCPS student I encourage you all to make the decision today that will help to ensure that our schools are properly staffed and funded.

When taking into account that SEEK dollars continue to amount to fewer actual dollars for public education, the burden unfortunately falls on the shoulders of the local community to provide for our students, and we therefore encourage you all to consistently do what is in your ability to fill that gap.

It is understandable that folks might be hesitant to raise additional revenue in light of the current financial situation, however the problems our district faces cannot outweigh the needs of our students and staff.

Please take these thoughts into consideration when making funding decisions so that we can work to move FCPS forward.”

FCEA is heartbroken and horrified by Saturday’s tragedy that claimed the life of an FCPS student and injured others.

Our deepest condolences and compassion go out to everyone affected by this senseless violence. We stand in solidarity with the agencies, educators, community partners, and individuals who work tirelessly to prevent violence, support victims, and make our community safer.

Our community is hurting. We must stand together, support one another, and remain committed to a safer future for all.

Great leaders ensure that EVERY member of their team feels VALUED and APPRECIATED.

A perfect example of this type of leadership came this past Friday when the students, faculty, & staff of Cardinal Vallley Elementary (which includes two of our very own FCEA Board members) were honored with a visit by Superintendent Dr. Bill Bradford on Friday as FCPS ended it’s first week of the 26-27 school year!
