Celebrating 40 years of partnership between Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK) and the Central Kentucky Building Trades!

Over the past four decades, Kentucky’s skilled tradesmen and women have helped build and expand TMMK into the largest Toyota manufacturing plant in the world. Producing approximately 550,000 vehicles and 600,000 engines annually while employing nearly 10,000 team members.

This success would not have been possible without the dedication, craftsmanship, and hard work of Local 189 Members!

A special congratulations to Robert Akin, recent retiree of Local 189 and former President of the Central Kentucky Building Trades, who was honored with a Special Recognition Award for his years of leadership and service.

Here’s to 40 years of building excellence together and many more to come!

Solidarity in the pouring rain. ✊🌧️

Today, union members stood shoulder to shoulder with the workers at Third Street Stuff in Lexington, Kentucky, showing that union busting tactics will never be stronger than worker solidarity.

Rain couldn’t wash away our determination. When one union is attacked, we all stand together. Workers deserve respect, fair treatment, and the right to organize without intimidation or retaliation.

To the workers fighting for their voice at Third Street Stuff: you are not standing alone. Local 189 stands with you!

No matter how big or small, every local union matters. When we stand together in solidarity, we grow stronger, our voices become louder, and we remind the world that working people will always be stronger united.

The labor movement was built on sacrifice, unity, and standing up for one another. That spirit is still alive today every time union brothers and sisters come together to support each other.

Solidarity Brothers and Sisters! 🇺🇸

🚨 ATTN: Fayette County: Third Street Staff Union has asked for our solidarity. 🤝

“Hey folks! In an apparent effort to union bust, Third Street will be closing for an unspecified amount of time starting June 1st, leaving their entire staff a 10 day notice of being laid off and countless community members no way of visiting their favorite unionized coffee shop. The rationale provided to our union representatives was that Third Street Stuff is changing ownership, from Pat Gerhard to her son and daughter-in-law, currently a mananger at Third Street Stuff, Dave and Lindsey Gerhard. Why this would warrant a potentially indefinite closure, who knows? We suspect it's to force the people who make up our union out under the guise of renovations and new ownership. We, the Third Street Staff Union, are going on strike starting this Saturday the 23rd until the prospective owners agree to keep Third Street open and bargain with us in good faith. We are asking community members to join us in a boycott of the business and picketing outside Third Street Stuff the next two Saturdays, the 23rd and 30th, from 11-1pm. For more information tune in to WRFL from 5-6pm on Monday, the 25th, for an interview with our union members and to donate to our strike fund.”
