During Pride and everyday, KY 120 United-AFT stands in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ youth and educators. Thousands in attendance at today’s Lexington Pride Festival agreed. 🌈

Public schools should be safe and welcoming for everyone. As educators that work directly with LGBTQIA+ youth, AFT members want our students to know that they have allies in classrooms. As workers, the strongest protections against discrimination and harassment are in a union contract. ✍️

Together, we must fight for classrooms, workplaces, and communities where all can thrive. 💙🧡💜💛💚❤️✊

The Kentucky labor movement continues to stand united with the rank and file employees of Fayette County Public Schools. Last night, the president of Teamsters Local Union 783 out of Louisville spoke on behalf of the president of the Kentucky State AFL-CIO, representing more than 130,000 union members across the Commonwealth. 💪

🗣️ “Let me be clear on where we are, why we are here. I am in solidarity with the brave men and women of KY 120 United-AFT who are asking this board for recognition and collective bargaining rights. They are simply asking for a seat at the table. The opportunity to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement, that secures workers rights, fair wages, workplace protections, defined benefits, and a clear process for representation and accountability.

They’re here tonight, right here behind me. These workers are demanding what they have earned: recognition, respect, and the right to negotiate a legally binding collective bargaining agreement that guarantees accountability, not empty promises.” 👏

United we bargain, divided we beg. When unions fight together we win! ✊🏆

🚨 ATTN: Fayette County: Third Street Staff Union has asked for our solidarity. 🤝

“Hey folks! In an apparent effort to union bust, Third Street will be closing for an unspecified amount of time starting June 1st, leaving their entire staff a 10 day notice of being laid off and countless community members no way of visiting their favorite unionized coffee shop. The rationale provided to our union representatives was that Third Street Stuff is changing ownership, from Pat Gerhard to her son and daughter-in-law, currently a mananger at Third Street Stuff, Dave and Lindsey Gerhard. Why this would warrant a potentially indefinite closure, who knows? We suspect it's to force the people who make up our union out under the guise of renovations and new ownership. We, the Third Street Staff Union, are going on strike starting this Saturday the 23rd until the prospective owners agree to keep Third Street open and bargain with us in good faith. We are asking community members to join us in a boycott of the business and picketing outside Third Street Stuff the next two Saturdays, the 23rd and 30th, from 11-1pm. For more information tune in to WRFL from 5-6pm on Monday, the 25th, for an interview with our union members and to donate to our strike fund.”

We care and we show up because public education is worth fighting for. When budget cuts impact our schools and working families, we demand accountability, transparency, and real solutions.

Kentucky’s labor unions are standing in solidarity and agree: Fayette County Public Schools teachers and staff deserve to be a part of the decision making process with a collective bargaining agreement. Cut the waste, not rank and file. ✂️🗑️🚫👨‍🏫

While Fayette County Public Schools leadership has attempted to silence public education stakeholders, leading to the district’s budget crisis, we appreciate KET - Kentucky Educational Television again giving a voice to Fayette County Public Schools largest rank and file union. 🗣️🎤

During last week’s rally before the school board planning meeting, KY 120 United-AFT Vice President Sara Green was interviewed. “We have asked for a legally binding collective bargaining agreement several times from the board and unfortunately the board chair, Tyler Murphy has refused. They don’t want to because then they would have to open up their financials.” 🚫🗳️💵

Join us this Thursday, 5pm, 450 Park Place, to make sure your voice is heard. 📣🪧
