Here are some pics and videos from some fun time in the play yard from a few days ago.
First is Squirrel, a little cutie who was a hit at the Faith and Blue event last weekend
Next video is three year old Poppa, he had to think about it before ambling over to me. He was worth the wait. He's done an unbelievable turn around from being scared when he first came in. He's a great dog who followed me all around the yard.
Zoos is a big, strong 4 year ld Cane Corso mix. You can see in the video he's got a beautiful, athletic stride and yes, does some drooling.
Dollars is another lap dog wanna be - when she comes running up it's not "to you"., its "on you" if she can. Check out her extreme low crawling talent in the video
Mizzy was kind of a relief after the collisions with Dollars and Queen - she came running up like a Banshee but then screeched to a plopping halt at me feet. And man, does she love a belly rub.
I didn't get a good picture of 5.5 year old Mastiff/Doberman mix Cardi - probably because she was moving too fast. Amongst tough competition, she had the best zoomies of the day.

We took st marys St. Mary's County Animal Services shelter dogs Staple and Squirrel to a training session at Think Like A Dog yesterday; it was a really good outing and those two dogs not only did really well, but they loved it (note the tails wagging like crazy in every video!)
Squirrel, handled beautifully by Jolee, is a 5 year old female Pug/Beagle mix. Cute as a button! She loved the attention and the training, perfecting her signature move, a belly low crawl toward the person with the treats. Donna described her as a "fireside dog", one that just wants to hang by her person at the fireside.
I had Staple, an almost one year old (birthday coming up) female terrier/Pit mix. She also loved the training session and I swear, watching her over the hour was like watching one of those dog TV shows where you're sure a bunch of time was cut out because no dog could learn that fast. She did very well controlling her puppy energy (for the most part!) and figured out and caught on to new things really fast - she is smart, sweet and so eager to please.
Over the course of the (donated by Donna) hour, Squirrel and Staple learned to recognize and learn form a short, well timed key word as well as sit, touch, watch me, and leash walking manners. We are so grateful to Think Like a Dog owner Donna for donating her time and expertise for the betterment of these deserving dogs, its obvious that she loves doing it. We've done a number of these sessions in the past and will be doing more

UPDATE: Exciting news - Melissa’s Purr-fection Confections will be at our table giving away their fabulous cupcakes at this event!
This weekend we are joining the St Mary's County Sheriff's office at a Faith in Blue community donation drive. They will be accepting pet food donations that will go to our Shelter's Pet Pantry and people food donations that will go to local food banks. There will be Sheriff's K-9 dog on site and doing a demonstration, and a St. Mary's County Animal Services Animal Control officer with a hand picked, adoptable shelter dog. We will have the dog tag machine humming and will gladly accept monetary donations to be used for shelter needs as well. Hope to see you out at this great community event!

Come see your AROO friends at not one, but two events tomorrow (Saturday) First, at 9:00 am, we will be at the Blessing of the Animals at the Christ Episcopal Church in Chaptico with an adoptable dog from the Shelter. We're hoping he gets both blessed and adopted.
Starting at 10:00 we will have a second AROO team at Brudergarten at the Shepherd's Old Field Market in Leonardtown. All proceeds from tickets for both the dog costume contest at 10:00 and the wild and wooly Wiener Dog Races at 2:00 will go to AROO to benefit the St Mary's St. Mary's County Animal Services shelter.
