What a special day it was getting the 1996 Division 1 Massachusetts State Champion Leominster Blue Devils back together at Polar Park to be honored before the WooSox game!
What made the day even more special was the perfect attendance. Every member of that championship team was there to celebrate a moment that happened 30 years ago but still feels like yesterday.
And then there was Coach Johnson. At 89 years young, he was right there with us, just as he was back in 1996. Coach finished his incredible career with 726 wins, the most Division 1 baseball wins in Massachusetts history. His impact on the players he coached and the lives he touched goes far beyond the numbers.
Seeing everyone together again, players, coaches, and families, was a reminder that championships may be won on the field, but the friendships, memories, and bonds created along the way last a lifetime.
1996 State Champions forever. 💙⚾️
What an honor it was to share this special day together. And a huge thank you to the WooSox for giving us the opportunity to celebrate this incredible group! Thank you to Tommy K for joining us. His dad Coach K meant so much to us as a coach and a mentor from our little league days through high school.

A special night at the Worcester Red Sox tomorrow as the 1996 Division I State Champion Leominster Blue Devils are honored during a pregame ceremony at Polar Park! ⚾️
The 1996 Blue Devils finished an incredible 23–2 season, capturing the Division I State Championship with a thrilling 5–4 victory over Peabody in the state finals.
The game also marked Coach Johnson’s 500th career victory. He would go on to finish with 726 wins, making him the winningest Division I baseball coach in Massachusetts history.
Ace pitcher Tino Proietti will have the honor of throwing out the first pitch. Tino finished that championship season 10–0 with a 1.01 ERA and pitched a complete game in the state final.
Also part of that championship team was current longtime Leominster head coach Rich Barnaby, who played third base for the Blue Devils.
A tremendous team, an unforgettable season, and a legacy that continues to live on. Congratulations to the 1996 Leominster Blue Devils! 💙⚾️
