North Carolina Crimestoppers Conference — Day 2!

Day 2 brought a very special good boy and an important message to the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association 35th Anniversary Conference!
Deputy Barkley !
Deputy Chris Curtis, handler with the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office, shared how Deputy Barkley helps open the lines of communication between law enforcement and the people we serve — especially children and teenagers.
Deputy Barkley plays an important role in helping children feel more comfortable when they have to testify in court, participate in forensic interviews, or interact with law enforcement during difficult circumstances. Sometimes, a wagging tail and a little four-legged friendship can make all the difference. Deputy Curtis and his K9 partner talk to hundreds of people every month.
Deputy Barkley also shared a few of his special tricks, too! From those famous tail wags to making his first-ever walk on the beach, Barkley was definitely a memorable guest.
Thank you, Deputy Curtis, for sharing Barkley’s story and reminding us of the incredible ways our four-legged partners can help build trust, comfort and communication within our communities.
Great job, Deputy Barkley! We’re glad you came to the beach!
