Yesterday we said a very unexpected goodbye to our wonderful therapy horse Caramel. Caramel might have only been at The Red Barn for 2 years, but during that time, he impacted more lives than we can count. If you’ve been to the barn in the last 2 years, you have definitely been greeted by him!

Caramel was a phenomenal teacher. He was kind, he was patient, he was smart (sometimes too smart), and he was not afraid to ask you to do things correctly. Caramel could simultaneously hold his rider accountable and give them immense grace. He could keep you humble and build you up. He was the type of horse that all instructors dream of having the opportunity to work with.

Shelley Burke Attebery graciously shared Caramel with The Red Barn. She recognized his ability to serve and teach our students, but she also knew that we would immediately fall in love with Caramel. We will never be able to thank Shelley enough for sharing him with all of us at The Red Barn.

We will miss so many things about Caramel, but the thing that we will miss the most is seeing students go from timid and reactive to confident and proactive while riding him. Caramel taught lessons that reached far beyond the barn.

Rest in peace, sweet Caramel. The barn won’t be the same without you, especially at feeding time💙

This Memorial Day, we pause to remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

At The Red Barn, we also honor veterans who continue to carry the invisible wounds of service long after they return home.

This Memorial Day, you can honor someone you love while helping a veteran find healing, peace, and connection through our programs.

When you make a gift in honor or memory of a veteran, we’ll send a heartfelt note to their family or loved one letting them know their legacy continues to make a difference.

Honor their sacrifice. Help another veteran heal.

And that’s a wrap on our Spring Term at The Red Barn!

We were blessed with beautiful weather, incredible horses, and so many special moments along the way. From smiles and laughter to learning, growth, confidence, and hard work — this term was full of wins both in and out of the arena.

We are so proud of our riders, volunteers, instructors, and horses who made this season unforgettable. Thank you for being part of The Red Barn family!

When Michael first came to The Red Barn, life after service felt overwhelming.

Then he met a horse named Mazie.

Little by little, he began to breathe easier, trust again, and reconnect with himself.

Today, Michael says The Red Barn gave him something he thought he had lost for good:
Peace.

Your support helps veterans like Michael find healing and hope again.

This season, you can honor a veteran you love while helping another veteran find healing at The Red Barn.

When you make a gift, we’ll send a special note to the veteran (or their family) letting them know a donation was made in their honor.

It’s a meaningful way to say:
“I remember. I’m grateful.”

Give before July 4 to honor a veteran in your life. TheRedBarn.org
