The Red Barn The Red Barn's programs include adapted horseback riding, equine-assisted learning, and related recreational activities.

The mission of The Red Barn is to provide educational, therapeutic, and equine-assisted programs benefiting individuals with disabilities and special circumstances, especially those living in low-income families. The Red Barnack serves an average of 75-100 children and families a week through 4 unique programs.

We are less than 2 weeks away from our 1st annual Bluegrass at the Barn event! Your attendance will support the continuation of The Red Barn's mission, providing equine-assisted programs benefiting individuals from all walks of life, including those with disabilities or special circumstances.

Silent auction preview #5! We have one more gorgeous painting by Kyle Rogers, who was generous enough to donate two works of art in support of The Red Barn. "Take the Reins" is a vibrant piece, named for The Red Barn's impactful programs. It will be available at Bluegrass at the Barn's silent auction October 25th. See you there!

Silent auction preview #4! At Bluegrass at the Barn, you'll have the chance to bid on a 5-night getaway on Logan Martin Lake! This beautiful log cabin has 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and a bunk room, plus a lake-front porch with a gorgeous view. It sleeps a crowd so bring your friends and family to watch football by the fire or enjoy the sunset with a cocktail in hand. Plus, take advantage of the private boat launch, ample dock space, sauna and outdoor shower!

Class Spotlight!

šŸ“ BULLY AT THE BARN šŸ’›

What can horses teach us about bullying, boundaries, and communication? More than you might think!

Bully at the Barn is a semester-long class designed to help kids learn how to identify bullying behaviors and build confidence in what to do when they experience or witness bullying.

Horses are a unique part of the learning process. As herd animals, they communicate constantly through body languageā€”setting boundaries, responding to one another, and learning when to give each other space. By observing and interacting with our horses, participants can explore these same concepts in a safe, hands-on environment.

Our classes are a great way for kids to get involved at The Red Barn while waiting for other services, or they can participate in the class on its own!

And of course, we encourage everyone to follow Louisā€™ example in this photo: be kind to one anotherā€”even those of a different species. šŸ“ā¤ļø

Sometimes a little kindness (and a good horse hug) can go a long way.

Silent auction preview #3! Attention gourmands and w**e enthusiasts! Gather your favorite foodies for an unforgettable evening. Chris Harrigan, formerly of Satterfieldā€™s, will prepare and serve a 5-course tasing menu featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients.

Each course will be paired with w**es carefully selected from Dorothy and Stewart Leeā€™s extensive cellar. Sommelier Stewart will educate guests and keep the vino flowing.

The winning bidder can choose between hosting the event in the Leeā€™s home or their own. Bidding is available at Bluegrass at the Barn October 25th!

Silent auction highlight #2! Kyle Rogers has TWO unique paintings available for bidding at Bluegrass at the Barn. Kyle created this piece, "Bluegrass at the Barn," of a bluegrass quartet in his unique style - a beautiful, vibrant work. Enjoy some behind the scenes footage of its creation.

Kyle Rogers' work is bold, playful, layered, and unapologetically human, much like the artist himself. There are no manufactured personas here. No polished faƧade. Just paint, honesty, curiosity, and a healthy disregard for taking himself too seriously.

New Herd Member at The Red Barn! Please welcome Rachel McKenney to the team as our new Office Coordinator.

Rachel graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Wildlife Enterprise Management and earned her masterā€™s degree in Hospitality Management in 2024. A lifelong equestrian, Rachel grew up riding and even brought her horse, Percy, with her to college. Percy has since moved to Birmingham with her and remains an important part of her life. Her love of horses has also taken her out West, where she worked as a wrangler and had the opportunity to work with rescued wild mustangs and natural horsemanship.

Rachelā€™s connection to The Red Barnā€™s mission is personal. Throughout many of lifeā€™s challenges, Percy has been a constant source of comfort and support, allowing her to experience firsthand the powerful impact horses can have on peopleā€™s lives.

Rachel had always hoped to find a career that combined her administrative skills with her love for animals and passion for helping others. At The Red Barn, she found the opportunity to bring all three together in what she considers her dream job.

Outside of the barn, Rachel loves spending time with her dog, LT. She also loves spending time with her cat, Nymeria, as well as her family and friends. In her free time, she enjoys a good puzzle and never turns down a chance to nap.

First up for our Bluegrass at the Barn silent auction preview is a 5 night escape to ā€œCompass Point,ā€ a bright and spacious 4-bedroom, 4.5-bathroom home in WaterColor!

Guests have access to the newly expanded WaterColor Beach Club as well as the many other community amenities, including tennis courts, pools and beach access points. The home comfortably sleeps 12, has a private outdoor oasis with a saltwater pool and includes 4 complimentary adult bikes and a 6-seater low-speed vehicle to make exploring easy!
