It's time for another Meet Main Street post, introducing you all to the people behind Leeds Main Street, including board members, volunteers, staff, and more. This week, we're featuring Julie Hubbard, a volunteer since day one, putting in the work on each of our four committees!
What made you want to get involved with Leeds Main Street?
✨ Leeds is home! I was born and raised here, graduated from Leeds High School, and now have the privilege of raising my own family and working in the community I love. I've always had a heart for our small town and wanted to be part of something that helps it grow while preserving the charm and history that make Leeds so special. Being involved with Leeds Main Street gives me an opportunity to give back to a community that has given so much to me.
What would you say to someone who doesn't know what Leeds Main Street is or does and why they should get involved?
✨ Leeds Main Street is about bringing life, opportunity, and a sense of community to our downtown. It's about supporting our local businesses, preserving our history, creating inviting spaces, and making downtown Leeds a place where people want to gather, shop, eat, and spend time together.
I would encourage anyone to get involved because you don't have to own a business or have lived here your entire life to make a difference. If you love Leeds and want to see it thrive, there's a place for you! It takes people who care about their community to make great things happen.
What is your favorite thing Leeds Main Street has done for downtown Leeds?
✨ One of my favorite things about Leeds Main Street is the renewed excitement and pride surrounding our downtown. I love seeing people come together, supporting local businesses, and recognizing the potential of our historic downtown. It's exciting to see the momentum building and people investing their time, energy, and hearts into making Leeds even better.
The sky's the limit! What is your dream for downtown Leeds in 5-10 years?
✨ My dream is to see downtown Leeds become a thriving, walkable destination while still maintaining that small-town charm we all love. I envision beautifully maintained historic buildings filled with locally owned shops, restaurants, coffee shops, and businesses. I'd love to see more outdoor gathering spaces, family-friendly events, and a downtown that's full of life throughout the week.
Most importantly, I want future generations, including my own children, to have the same pride in calling Leeds home that I do. I want downtown Leeds to be a place where memories are made, traditions continue, and our community grows together.
