We're back with another Meet Main Street post, introducing you all to the people behind Leeds Main Street, including board members, volunteers, staff, and more. This week, we're featuring PJ Hubbard, one of our longstanding board members!
What made you want to get involved with Leeds Main Street?
✨ I wanted to get involved because I saw the incredible potential our city has. Leeds has great people, a great location, a beautiful historic downtown, and so many things already working in its favor. I love this community, and I want to be part of helping Leeds reach its full potential, not just for those of us who live here today but for the generations that will call Leeds home in the future.
What would you say to someone who doesn't know what Leeds Main Street is or does and why they should get involved?
✨ Leeds Main Street is a community of volunteers who share a genuine love and passion for the city of Leeds and want to be part of its continued growth and revitalization. We work alongside our businesses, city leadership, property owners, and community members to help strengthen downtown and identify opportunities or gaps that may otherwise be overlooked. I would encourage anyone who loves Leeds and wants to see it continue to grow to get involved. You don’t have to own a business or have a particular background, you just need to care about the community and be willing to contribute your time, ideas, or talents.
What is your favorite thing Leeds Main Street has done for downtown Leeds?
✨ There are honestly too many things to name just one. Events like Mardi on Main and Mistletoe on Main, the murals and other improvements downtown, and the collaboration Leeds Main Street has helped build between city leadership, local businesses, and the community are all things I’m proud of. More than any single project or event, though, my favorite thing has been seeing people come downtown, spend time together, support our local businesses and become excited about the future of Leeds.
The sky's the limit! What is your dream for downtown Leeds in 5-10 years?
✨ My dream is for downtown Leeds to become a true destination people traveling along I-20 feel like they need to stop and experience. I’d love to see every historic building restored and occupied, thriving local businesses throughout downtown, and sidewalks filled with people walking, running, shopping, eating, and spending time with their families. I want downtown to be a place our residents are proud of and visitors remember. Ultimately, I want to look back in 5–10 years and see that Leeds reached the potential so many of us already know it has.
We are so glad to have PJ on our team! If you're interested in getting involved with Leeds Main Street, too, send us a message and we'll get you plugged in!
