Leavenworth & Ft. Leavenworth Parents As Teachers

Leavenworth & Ft. Leavenworth Parents As Teachers Providing the information, support, and encouragement parents need to help their children develop optimally during the crucial early years of life. Louis, Mo.

Parents are their child's first and most influential teachers. Parents as Teachers is a child development program for parents of children under 36 months of age to assist in that role. It is sponsored by our local school district at no charge to families living within the community. Services include personal visits, group meetings, playgroups, screenings, and links with other community resources.

Services are facilitated by certified parent educators with specialized training in working with families who have infants and toddlers. Program participation is voluntary. As funding is available, services may extend to kindergarten age. There are currently 250 families in the program. We are pleased to be recognized by Parents as Teachers National Center as a "Program of Excellence" following our assessment in program quality performance standards. Leavenworth Parents as Teachers is an international affiliate of Parents as Teachers National Center, St. Our program also serves Fort Leavenworth USD207.

When it comes to twins and siblings, safe sleep still means separate sleep spaces.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that each baby sleep in their own crib, bassinet, or play yard. Sharing a crib can increase the risk of overheating, rolling into unsafe positions, and suffocation.

The safest setup is simple, each baby on their back, in their own clear sleep space with a firm mattress and fitted sheet.

Close together, safely separate.

Motherhood is built in quiet moments.

In the bedtime stories read one more time.
In the comforting hugs after hard days.
In the strength it takes to keep showing up, even when no one sees the effort behind the scenes.

Today, we celebrate mothers, grandmothers, caregivers, and all those nurturing the next generation with love, resilience, and hope.

At Parents as Teachers, we are honored to walk alongside families every day — supporting parents as their children’s first and most influential teachers.

To every mother and caregiver: thank you for the care you give, the sacrifices you make, and the futures you help shape.

Happy Mother’s Day. 💙
