First Judicial District CASA Association Imagine what it would be like to lose your parents, not because of something you did, but because they cannot or will not take care of you.

Serving Leavenworth and Atchison Counties in Kansas

The CASA program in Leavenworth was established in 1994 and is based on the idea that average citizens can become professionally trained volunteers who serve as the eyes and ears of the court. Every year, an estimated 200 abused and neglected children in Leavenworth and Atchison Counties are placed in foster care because they are unable to liv

e safely at home. Now, into these children’s lives come dozens of strangers: police, foster parents, therapists, social workers, judges, lawyers, and more. Hopefully, one of those strangers is a CASA volunteer. CASA volunteers watch over and advocate for these abused and neglected children to make sure they don’t get lost in the overburdened legal system or languish in an inappropriate group or foster home. They stay with each case until it is closed, and the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. For many children, their CASA volunteer will be the one constant adult presence – the only one constant presence who cares ONLY FOR THEM.

It's September, and that means it's time to kick off our brand-new Sip Back fundraising program with five Girl Scouts who are working toward their Silver Award, the highest award a Girl Scout Cadette can earn.

For their project, these girls are partnering with First Judicial District CASA Association to tackle a project that may not sound particularly glamorous, but is VERY much needed: giving CASA's basement storage space a serious organizational glow-up.

They've divided the basement into six areas and are working to raise about $3,000 for heavy-duty shelving, storage totes, organizational supplies, and the other things needed to turn the space into something functional, organized, and sustainable.

And now they have their very own soda at First City Soda to help get them there.

Come try their Sip Back drink, support their Silver Award project, and help these girls get one step closer to their goal.

We'll be sharing more about their project and their drink throughout the month, so come sip, learn about what they're doing, and help us give these girls a big boost toward that $3,000 goal.
