Today is Beth's birthday and to celebrate her, we wanted to reshare her story below. Happy Birthday Beth! We love you.

Beth Nguyen, Co‑Founder of Rare STRIDES and Rare Wish, shares a powerful, lived account of resilience. She was at the height of her nursing career when symptoms began. Over years she balanced family, appointments, research, and advocacy while facing Syringomyelia, Tarlov Cyst Disease, Intracranial Hypertension, Autonomic Dysfunction, Diastolic Heart Failure, Pulmonary Hypertension Type 2, and a rare c‑spine tumor. 🦓❤️🐻

Her story shows how compassion, visibility, and persistence can change care. Volunteers are the heart of Rare Wish. Donations and adoptions of Sunny the Rare Bear help grant more wishes and bring hope to rare families.

If the future of healthcare is being shaped in the room, the rare disease community deserves to be in that room.

Over the past two days, Beth Nguyen and Trena Myers have proudly represented Rare STRIDES and Rare Wish at the Georgia Life Sciences Summit, beginning with the awards ceremony and continuing through a full day of conversations, learning, connection, and collaboration.

But we weren’t there simply to network.

We were there because the voices of people living with rare diseases belong in conversations about the future of healthcare.

We were there to listen, to learn, to build relationships, and to make sure RARE is remembered when innovation moves from an idea to action.

Because sometimes change begins with one conversation.

One introduction can open a door.
One conversation can spark an idea.
One connection can become a collaboration.
And one collaboration can ultimately change a life.

That is why showing up in these rooms matters.

Beth and Trena spent these two days connecting with leaders across healthcare, research, biotechnology, life sciences, and innovation while sharing the missions behind Rare STRIDES and Rare Wish.

And a special thank you to Maria at Georgia Life Sciences for her support. Having people who recognize the importance of including rare disease voices in these spaces matters more than they may ever realize. We are incredibly grateful for the welcome, encouragement, and support.

We left these two days with new connections, new possibilities, and an even stronger commitment to ensuring the rare disease community is seen, heard, represented, and included.

🦓 We don’t just want people to know rare disease exists. We want them to remember the people behind it.

That’s how we .

New post: Understanding the Importance of Rare Disease Day 2026 and Its Impact on Patients

Rare diseases affect millions, but many people still feel isolated. Rare Disease Day-observed on the last day of February-brings recognition, connection, and a push for better research and policies. 🎗️ The post shares how personal stories break stigma and why awareness matters (the Orphan Drug Act has helped approve 600+ treatments since 1983 - a reminder that advocacy works).

At Rare Wish, volunteers are our heart. Donations and adoptions of Sunny the Rare Bear help us grant more wishes and give hope to patients and families. 🧸❤️

Read the post to learn how visibility creates real change - then join us. Volunteer, donate materials for Sunny, or partner with us so we can reach more families. Has Rare Disease Day touched you or someone you love? Share your story below.
