The Oxbow, Inc. - Conservation Crew has been hard at work collecting native plant seeds to plant at the preserve this fall! ๐ŸŒฑ

While most of the summer has been spent working to remove invasive species like honeysuckle, Japanese chaff flower, Japanese stiltgrass, and garlic mustard, yesterday the team switched gears to collect native plant seeds that will be used to improve wildlife habitat as we head into the fall season.

Conservation work is never finished, and it takes dedicated volunteers just like these ones to make a difference! ๐Ÿ’š

Interested in helping out with our Conservation Crew on Thursdays from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM? Contact Oxbow, Inc. Land Steward, Sydney Raftery at [email protected] to get involved.

The Oxbow Nature Conservancy is in full bloom. ๐ŸŒผ

After a month of heavy rainfall, the preserve is now coated with a blanket of native plants and wildflowers! In addition to adding some eye-catching beauty, these native wildflowers feed pollinators and add to the biodiversity of the Oxbow.

Come out and explore the preserve while these summertime blooms are still here! ๐ŸŒฑ

Are you planning to help us out tomorrow, 8/15/26? Please read the details below regarding meeting location and activity updates. ๐Ÿ“ข

Our original plan was to cut honeysuckle down by the Ohio River, but with as much rain as we have had this week, that area will be inaccessible. The new plan is to cut an invasive species called chaff flower before it goes to seed! ๐ŸŒฑ

Date: Saturday, 8/15/2026

Time: 8:00 AM - 10:00 AM

Location: Meet at the main entrance of the Oxbow Nature Conservancy (Hardintown parking lot) located at 17160-17278 Reardon Dr, Lawrenceburg, IN 47025.

Activity: During this event, we will be using string trimmers and w**d whips to cut down the chaff flower that is currently blanketing the understory of the woods. The goal is to cut it down before it goes to seed so that we can keep it from adding to the seed bank.

What to bring:
Tools if you have them (string trimmer and protective equipment OR w**d whips)
Long pants and sleeves (to block out mosquitos)
Gardening gloves
Extra bug spray
Water bottle

๐ŸŒฟ Oxbow, Inc. will provide snacks, water, bug spray, sunscreen, safety glasses, a limited number of tools, and gloves. We hope to see you there!
