“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times……”
Thus began Charles Dickens’ immortal work A Tale of Two Cities. While his work focused on the French Revolution the above quoted line, the first sentence in the book’s opening paragraph, certainly describes the environment we are living in today.
Clearly, the coronavirus is creating some of the worst times in living memory. No one will come through this unaffected. Some will sicken and possibly die, individuals and businesses will suffer significant losses in income, and retirees will lose their economic security as the value of their retirement assets plummets. It is the worst of times.
Sometimes, though, the worst of times can bring out the best in people. That is certainly the case here in Hidden Valley Lake. We are proud to announce the establishment of “Neighbors Helping Neighbors”.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors is an all-volunteer effort. Its focus will be on those residents who are especially challenged by the virus situation and are unable to leave their homes. Volunteers will run errands for them, such as picking up groceries ordered on Kroger’s Click List or a Willie’s takeout order.
Residents who need this help, as well as individuals who are willing to help, can simply call the POA Office at (812) 537-3091, Extension 8 and leave a message. Andrea Smiley, who will be heading this volunteer effort, will monitor the voice mailbox and match volunteers with needs.
