September is National Su***de Prevention Awareness Month 💜🩵
In Indiana, su***de is the second leading cause of death for Hoosiers ages 10-34. And according to the 2023 Indiana Youth Risk Behavior Survey, 1 in 4 Indiana high school students seriously considered su***de, nearly 1 in 6 attempted su***de, and 47% reported persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness.
These aren’t just statistics. They’re students in our schools and young people in our communities.
Through our State Project, “It’s Okay to NOT Be Okay,” we’re challenging student councils across Indiana to help promote mental health awareness and wellness in their schools and communities. Councils working toward our Honor Council Award are required to complete a project based on our State Project.
